[Jan. 17th, 2017 09:59:56 AM]

So it's been hard to pick up the camera in the last couple of months. I miss it, but just couldn't find the interest. So I've been forcing myself to shoot since the first challenge of the year. Hoping to get back the passion.

I do miss my wildlife photography. We got 12.5" of snow, and the birds were very confused. I hadn't been feeding for a number of months, but everyone was out looking. Luckily I had some extra. It was exciting seeing everyone back! We even got birds who normally don't come to the feeder: Brown Thrasher, Eastern Towhee, and I even had 3 bluebirds! (the bluebirds didn't come back, though. :(

I spent a number of hours with the camera, tripod and remote. The problem was that I couldn't get a fast enough shutter speed. I get a lot of grain at even medium ISOs. And these small birds are really REALLY fast!!

I do love nature. And I do enjoy trying to figure out the patterns and clues that allow a photographer to know how and where to shoot. Listening, watching, learning, gives such a insight. I wish I could figure out how to get more light out there.

Thanks for the comments!

Oh, and I know that it would have been better cropped in from the left, but it was a large storm for us (12.5") so I wanted to leave the snow so you could get a feel for the size of the pile on the railing in relation to the size of the bird. :)

I set the ISO to 1250 (f4) so I got 1/4000 of a second on this. I had to do a lot of denoising!

Framed perfectly, no need to crop. And I love the grain. I know, I'm weird....

You did a beautiful job and I would not have cropped. It's perfect like it is.

Congrats on the 4th, Wendy! I barely squeaked ahead of you, sorry about that, but it's a pleasure to rub shoulders ;)

This was my stand alone top pick. It is just lovely - and amazing to me! Who cares about a bit of noise? 'Grats on the HM.

I honestly cannot for the life of me get shots of birds or butterflies. What is the secret? I gave a 10 for this master of flying things or the luck was with you.

I this isn't one of Jake's bird images I'll be surprised. In any event it looks like the same tufted titmouse showed up for an encore performance that you've captured well IMHO. Front page potential here. 7
