A little man fears that hand, whilst another is turned away unaware.

I'm a bit nonplussed people didn't see the wide angle, as an observant eye would have noticed the distortion on the bottom line of the bath tub, and the corner of the shower, as well as the span: four tiles, all the way up to the top of the shower.

Thanks everyone for your comments though, I appreciate it.

I don't see the harsh environment in this image. In fact, there's hope amongst these dead trees: grass, bushes, a line of foliage in the back. Also, your processing is rather peculiar to me, it almost resembles ripples in water (another sign of life). More emphasis needs to be placed on the desolate, "unusuable" nature of the land with your composition, cutting out the greenery ideally. Also, the image only being 600 pixels tall counts against you.

I think you picked a unique subject: herbivory, however, your composition is sore, I feel. I think a more striking connection needs to be made between the insect-eaten leaves and the thorns. Many probably gloss over the leaves and only see the thorns before moving on. One way to enhance the leaves is probably a shot from underneath, where the light is shining through the holes; while the thorned stem could be framed as some sort of leading element.

The centered pole draws attention to a contrast which maybe you tried to make with the selective red...however there doesn't seem to be any contrast between the two lanes; to me, this creates a disconnect. I'm looking and looking for the harsh element of this image...but I can't find it, no man standing on the median looking to cross, no crash, no fear, chaos, confusion. There's too much to look at in this image which seems unrelated.

The image is overprocessed to me. It borders cartoonish. This doesn't ruin the image though. I like your subject but I think you need to examine it a bit more closely (walk around, find some rousing angles). The composition doesn't really impact the viewer, it's rather standard.
