Hopefully this works. Still getting used to the forum.... I finally had time yesterday to run out for a quick photo.. ISO 400 Exposure 1/100 f-stop f/32. The photo came in VERY dark. I lightened it up for this test. I also didn't focus close enough, so had to crop.. Also... There wasn't a single flower on the "cool" plant, so I had to take a pic of its neighbor... I don't think I performed a very good test..

Susan,

That was incredibly good information. Thank you! I knew I was being naughty by centering the flower, but couldn't help myself. I also have to admit that I used a camera preset for this shot. That was fairly lazy of me, I'm afraid. I do wish I could turn back the clock and re-take that photo.. Still have the flowers in my garden, so might do just that! :)

It's not too late to re-shoot. Go give it a try, and place the resulting image side-by-side with this one (or send it to me). There is always time to learn :-)

Greetings from the Critique Club! What an odd looking flower, but clearly it appealed to the voters in all the right ways. Congrats on the HM :-) Composition is a little safe for my liking, being dead centre, but it's an interesting enough flower to look at that I can overlook it. Not a huge fan of foreground bokeh, with many of the petals from the bottom up and around the right side being out of focus. May have been a good idea to increase your depth of field. BTW may I ask why such a fast shutter speed and super-high ISO? 1/500 is suitable for something that can actually get up and move around quickly, and ISO 3200 is usually better put to use in areas where the light is very, very low. This was clearly a daytime shot, surely you could have got away with a much lower ISO (400 max) and a shutter speed of maybe 1/100 if you're shooting handheld. If there was no wind at all and you used a tripod, you could possibly get an even longer exposure.

Anyway hope this critique has been useful, feel free to PM me with any questions.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

I think the idea was solid but the way this played out you can definitely tell its a broken window, which (at least for me) is counter to the idea of abstract. You've got the literal interpretation of "dirty" down though! (Although when it does rain this will be the least of your worries! I hope that you have the duct tape and tarp Art suggested handy.) The challenge also called for no distinct lines or patterns. In this image you have a little of both in the background with the fence and the ... um, well I'm not sure what it is ... a giant-sized ramekin?

I do like the drama added by going black and white. The broken lines definitely lead the eye. I wish there was something more at the intersection to hold interest, as it is my eye wanders around looking for something to ground me. All in all I like the picture, and the score tells me that others did too, but for the dirty abstract challenge it doesn't feel quite right.
