Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that contributes well to the challenge

This is a nice abstract that pays homage to Aarons work, I like it. Your composition, the flat lighting, mono presentation and seeing all contribute well to the challenge theme. The sinuous strands of the dead plant add a lovely element of interest to the wall. I see this is only your 5th challenge and already you are a double ribbon holder, you are undoubtedly contributing in a significant way, I look forward to more of your work Philip.

I agreed with Sid's critique. A fabulous image that didn't meet viewers expectations about the challenge theme.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge

This is a lovely night scene that is enhanced by good mono processing. Whilst the lights are understandably blown the exposure overall is good, there is good detail throughout. Unlike your commenters, I would actually like to see more foreground but it would need to be sharply in focus too. By cropping the tops of the tall trees it would move it all to the upper third and create a more interesting composition but as I said before this would only work with a larger DOF with light playing on the focussed shapes and shades on the water.

You've captured a fine quiet mood in this image. Snow-dusted trees and grounds, with a couple enjoying the moment. I suspect there were no sounds being made when you were on site. The photo has a nice balance to it and a warm glow from the lights. The foreground, though, doesn't add much to the image. I would consider cropping off the bottom half of the water, just below what look like ice crystals. The bottom inch is not in focus in any event. Overall, I like your results. 6
