The ring light is something I constructed from materials from Home Depot. It is basically a 2 foot diameter circlular piece of wood with a hole cut in the middle of it. I painted it black and attached 12x 100 watt light bulbs in a circle on the wood and wired them all together. I prop it up and shoot through the middle of it. It gets very warm and very bright for the model, so I try to snap them off as quickly as possible. The whole thing cost under $20.

I've seen a lot of airplanes flying overhead in this challenge (and I'm sure you've seen them too) but this is the only one that made me pause and write a comment. With the others, the plane was so small, that even though it made it more minimal, it lost a lot of interest. Your picture is much more balanced in the minimalism vs interesting battle. Well done.

Now that's just weird. In my former days as a freelance illustrator and digital colorist, I had a children's book published titled "He Loves Me" with a picture of a daisy on the cover against a blus sky. Bonus points on the eerie factor.

After seeing this, I looked up "knomes" to see what came up. I always used the spelling "gnomes", but I guess yours works too. You learn something new everyday. Oh, by the way, great photo. 7.

what goes up

I think this could have been an amazing shot if it weren't for the tree(?) in the foreground. I'm still going to mark it high, but I recommend going out there and shooting it again someday without the tree. Just a boy and his kite. Ahh..talk about a feel of nostalgia.

Normally, i would say that there isn't one particular subject to focus in on, and not mark it quite as high. But this photo is way too cool and well done to give it anything less than an 8.

Flying High

Probably the most minimalist picture of the challenge. Unfortunately there is a fine balance with keeping an interesting concept while keeping it minimal. Very much met the challenge, but a touch lacking in interest. Keep up the good work though.
