Nice bench first off. That is totally cool.
The shot needed an different angle for sure. Maybe something much lower and a bit more to the left would have helped the composition. This shows me what I refer to as a "Flat Footed" shot. You could have changed the angle and faired much better. The color thing is way cool. It isolates the subject and makes it literally jump out of the shot. Nice thinking there. Had you come around the left a bit and gotten lower you could have cropped a bit tighter top to bottom. Pretty cool thinking and again NICE BENCH!

Wow, pretty cool shot you have here. As far as critique... really not much I would have personally done different. The composition is very good and I don't see a different angle I would have chosen. The exposure is wicked. I've done a lot of shots similar as a photojournalist so I know the lighting is true. The only thing I would have tried and I'm not sure if you did or not would have been noise reduction? Other than that I really can't find anything that bothers me with this shot. Very nicely done.

Composition;
A slight shift to the right would have done a bit of good. The leading lines are all good here. When doing this sort of shot you want your end subject to be a bit more dominate than you have here. It's a very good attempt and an even better learning shot. The dead space on the left is to over powering in the shot. Had the end pew begun at the edge it would hold far better.

Exposure: Coming from a wedding photographer I know how tough it is to shoot in churches. It's a nightmare to get a decent shot exposed correctly or even close for that matter. You have quite a bit of noise in your shot but, I really like how you compensate by going to Sepia and giving it an antique type look. It's funny because that is exactly what I do when I find myself in a pinch with a client and wind up with noisy shots. You did good here. Did you try B&W at all? I'd like to see a B&W version and maybe even introduce a tad bit more noise for effect.

Overall I'd say your shot was fairly good with all things considered. Just a couple things to consider next time but you pulled it off. It's not a snapshot and I don't believe you finished last. Congrats and keep up the work. I seen your port and your going to do quite well here.

To the two comments that disagreed with this shot not meeting the challenge... AYFKM???

Here let me spell it out for you okay. See the water bag? See that it's attached by a cable (cable could also be a string) See that it's hanging on to the helicopter? Note the word HANGING? If you put these two things together you have something like "Hanging by a Thread" Looks pretty friggin close to me as far as meeting the challenge don't you think? I really don't know why I even bother sometimes.

I'd love to see the comments you two made on more than 2/3 of the shots entered.

I knew most of the up tight A-Holes would butcher the photo because their pea brains refuse to let them think any harder than pressing the 2 key to save their own crap photos. This is pretty easy to figure out. Firefighters live a "Wildlife" This shot was taken on the fly and no processing. I'd like to see half the "photographers" (more like GWC's) that placed before me try something like this. I'm not sure why I continue to punish myself by entering knowing full well the BS that goes on with DPC voting. My respect goes out to a few that placed in this challenge and the rest of you box shooters... well I think you know where I stand on that matter.

I came back to this a day later and adjusted your score. It went up in case your wondering. Maybe I'll check it again tomorrow and go up even further...
It's a very nice shot and I love the colors. I would have tried to make the green pop a bit more than it's current state. Beautiful composition. Actually after writing my critique I'm adding another point because a few things came to light after closer look. Congrats on your 8

Thanks everybody for your comments. I really appreciate them. Although I never expected a ribbon with this shot I did however expect a much better placing. My score was much higher than I expected and I am greatful for that also. I'm a bit frustrated with DPC right now and I hope my venting doesn't ruffle any feathers out there. If I offend anyone with my straight forward comments then I am truly sorry but, I don't spend a lot of time candy coating my feelings for someone elses benefit. Those that know me will agree to this. I'm usually very out spoken and right now my frustrations aren't directed toward anyone particular so please don't get your G-string in a bunch. My last challenge I felt the same way I entered a shot that damn well should have ribboned and there were some absolutely shit photos that were placed better than mine. Now I'm feeling a bit jilted again and I'm sorry but WTF? I find this site to be VERY educational, supportive and fun and I'll continue to visit and occasionally post but, as far as entering challenges... not until something better can be done with voting. I think voting should be out in the open and you should be held accountable for your votes instead of annoymous hiding. If you vote you explain why. There would be a much better quality of voting if this were the norm. I'm not afraid of telling anyone why I gave them a 2 or a 10. That's the way it should be. Until then the chickens shall rule the roost.
