Baby Gatorby PhocalComment: Jbirkman you are welcome and glad you enjoyed the read.
I have been around gators for many years now and while it is hazardous I take no unnessaccary chances. I also don’t recommend that anyone do some of the things I do without fully understanding gator behavior.
But, gators are my favorite wildlife subject and I have spent most of the last 3 years learning how to photograph them.........which due to their size and low to the ground profile is not easy. |

Said the Spider to the Mosquitoby PhocalComment: Thanks for all the votes and comments. Guess I was wrong in how this would do in the challenge, probably because I really wanted to enter a photo of a baby gator........................For anyone curious this was all natural light with no use of reflectors. I also used my TC on this shot, so the effective focal length was 840mm..................... |

An appealing image that meets the challenge well
The stark high contrast between the bird and the white background is very effective indeed. The tones and detail in the feathers is beautiful and this is what gives the image its impact. So was the original background snow and the processing has pushed it to this pure plain white backdrop? My only minor point is that I may have been tempted to clone out those small white spots on his neck just to complete the birds perfection. Nice one Ronnie. |
Thanks for the wonderful critique sidpixel. The background was heavily overcast skies, so basically pure white. I probably should have cloned those few spots out and most likely would have if I didn't have the flu while editing. I actually was hoping to find a Cormorant when I went shooting because they are my favorite bird to convert to B&W because the of wonderful texture in their wings. |

Ssshhhhby PhocalComment: Thanks for the votes and comments, they are appreciated.
I will have to say that I was surprised when I got up this morning. With the score I had, I was sure I would end up in 4th-7th......................
But it sure is a great way to kick of the first challenge with my new lens. |
