The Portalby ColeyComment by glad2badad: Whimsy capture. Perfect title. Just lacking some punch ... It's coming off a little flat, like the levels could use a little pop and some contrast added. So, so close to being a top choice. |

The Portalby ColeyComment by MaryO: Very cool image! Love the old-fashioned feel to the man and the strong stripes leading to him which feel much more modern. I think the past is on the other side ... |

The Portalby ColeyComment by Dennisheckman: The leading lines cannot be ignored or forgotten as your mind attempts to reconcile what might happen when the next few steps are taken. The whimsical notion of protection from an umbrella is preposterous in the face of the cold unknown. My highest scoring image this month. |

Incidental Gritby ColeyComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge
A great portrait Cole. The shallow DOF from that maximum aperture is what makes this such a great image, your focus getting the eyes sharp is in the right place with just enough DOF to keep the nose in focus too. It’s really emphasising the rugged face against the nice soft focus facial and body features. I like the mono processing together with the grainy feel it really enhances the end result. If I were to change anything it would be the top background, I really wish you had that dark background throughout giving it a low key even grittier feel. With such a challenge as this it is open to wide interpretation, I suspect some may have voted it down because they didn’t feel it was incidental enough but your use of technique fills the challenge brief for me, well done. |
