I am loving macro mode right now, to see the world up closer has been so interesting, so wanted to do a side challenge and I wanted to have others share their macro stuff too.

Feel free to join in :-) This is just so much fun

I thought I would start a side challenge for those others who love macro just as much as I do. I think a style of what I like has been found and its really awesome!

I will start Just feel free to post whenever you wish

I love shooting macros, but I wish I had a lens that could get that close.

do you have a 50mm? put another lens on and hold the 50mm backwards against the front of it... (you'll have to set the 50mm's aperture wide-open)

Works in a pinch

I've got extension tubes which do a pretty good job, but I don't think I could get that close to an ant with them.

I have not tried ants with extension tubes yet, but it is my goal to learn too use those things right..
I have not yet figured it out but I have to wait till I get a new TTL flash. lol

I found these little ones while looking through the grass during the "lawn challenge". They are very tiny and stay near the ground. Unless you are looking for them most people will never see them.

No critters were harmed while doing this. I let him jump off on a big flower plant near the edge of the yard.

My neighbors ran over to me because I was laying on the ground taking a photo of this. They thought something was wrong with me.
When I showed them what I was shooting they laughed me.. they know I am weird now LOL

Feel free to join in, kinda forgot about my macro for a few days but this is the latest LOL

I am going to start learning focus stacking so any hints tips would be great!

This was a macro shot of a fern that hadn't yet unfurled.

I kinda bought my macro 'by mistake' due to not asking the right questions when I went into the shop. So glad I did :-)

Dang, those things are skittish! How'd you manage to catch him?

I love it that this thread is active again... I've got some recent ones that I will post up when I get a chance, and since it is "bug and flower season" in the Great White North, hopefully I will have more as the Summer progresses.

I am trying for my lightning bugs but they don't like to sit still plus being dark having issues

Glad you are enjoying it! I figure as long as ppl wanna add to it, doesnt have an end date :-))

Yes, Kirbic, the hover flies are sort of skittish. They tend to fly off for a minute, then come right back to the same spot, so in this case it was a matter of setting up the shot on the flower and waiting for the fly to return.

I never thought about trying to shoot a lightning bug macro. I hope you get a good shot to share.
Here in Florida, we have beetles that have luminous spots on their backs. It might be possible to get a close shot of one of those lit up, because they are slower movers.

I had extention tubes and trying them out instead of the raynox lens for the first time today I am not sure I am using them right still, but I had the #3 on and left the #2 and the #1 off... I really had to bump the F stop to F11 but I am not sure what I like using better..

I am gonna get some lighting bugs this weekend, they are really starting to come out :-))

I did get one photo of one but that little bugger didn't want to stay still hahahah, wanted to keep trying to fly away on me

Here's one I considered entering in the recent Puzzle Macro...

Putting the link instead of the thumbnail here because the thumb makes it pretty obvious what is is... Guesses?

I used the backwards 55mm for this shot.
Used a minolta 135 mounted, with a minolta 55mm hand held backwards on it. Very hard to focus. But got a few good shots.

Bump even more with extension tubes. I usually shoot at f/16 or f/22. Flash helps, or get one or two of those ultra cheap LCD panels and stick them on tripods on either side of your target area. I have a manual focus Nikon 105mm I use with my extension tubes. Can't really focus through the lens, anyway, and the extra length helps keep me from actually touching my subject with the lens ;-)

I guess it's time to start bothering the bugs in the garden again ... one of my favorite things about summer: bug macros! I'm weird that way.

I am driving my family nuts because of the bugs... my nickname didn't come by chance hahaha!

Thanks for the tips, I will try that tonight!

I used my full three ring extension tubes today for the first time and bumped up the Aperture like Mary said too, I think I have it and I stopped using my 28mm and put it on my 35-135 zoom, I wonder if I will get better results from my 70-200???

' I can pretty say I am pleased with these results my first bee captured in macro but it was a sweat bee, but still a bee :-))

I am loving my extension tubes more than my raynox lens 150 at the moment, I think its doing a better detailed job .. I have also heard and read that people are using their reverse rings along with the extension tubes and have pretty awesome results! For $2 heck ya.. I ordered my reverse rings today. Can't wait to experiment with it
