So, I recently switched to Photoshop CS5 from Photoshop CS4 on my mac. Up until that point, I and been using three photoshop plugins Color eFex Pro, Silver eFex pro and Noiseware Pro by Imagenomic without problem. So I installed Photoshop CS5, re-downloaded the three plugins, checked to make sure that they all have CS5 compatibility, (that they do) and installed them with my license keys. (that still work) All three plugins said they were installed correctly, all three plugins are inside my plugins folder, and yet, when I start photoshop, they do not appear under the Filters> category ANYWHERE!

I must be missing something! I've basically installed 3 plugins for Photoshop CS5, and they don't appear. I check in Photoshop>Preferences>Plugins to make sure the plugins directory was correct, the double checked my install directories and the photoshop CS5 plugins directory, and all the .plugin files are still there, in the correct place. I shut down photoshop, logged out of my computer and back on, started photoshop up, and IT STILL DIDN'T WORK!

Help, I'm leaving for Vancouver tomorrow and I assumed that installing plugins was going to be the easiest part of packing, but it's turning out to be the hardest. please help!!!

Thanks in advance!

They may be CS5 compatible but not 64-bit compatible? Try running CS5 not as 64 bit and see if they show up? Just a guess... Not all software has caught up to 64-bit yet.

How do I run as not 64-bit compatible?

Go to your applications folder, select CS5 app. and click Command-i. This brings up the Info window. Once it's open check "run in 32-bit mode".

When I run in 32-bit mode, now photoshop opens, hangs for a few minutes, then crashes saying it quit while unresponsive. I tried removing plugins and did it again same thing. Then I uncheck 32-bit mode and it runs fine. whats going on!????

ETA:

Also, if I just run the .plugin file by themselves whiel photoshop is open, a message comes up saying:

Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.

But this happens to all .plugin files when opened in photoshop.

AJ,

Look in your program files directory - Under Adobe --

Do you see two Photoshop directories? If so, then you'll want to try the one without the (64 bit) indicated in the directory name... In there, locate Photoshop.exe and double click it...

Do your plugins now appear?

Thanks for the response but I don't own a PC. Therefore, I do not have photoshop.exe or a program files directory. Thanks for trying though. None the less...

I FIXED IT!

The answer was simpler then I had imagined. Bear_Music had it on the dot. The two plugins were only compatible in 32-bit mode. The reason photoshop was hanging is because one of the plugins I downloaded the wrong version by mistake causing the application to hang. I re-installed the plugin on the right version, switched back to 32-bit mode and it worked perfectly.

I'm so happy I'll have photoshop for my Vancouver B.C trip. Thanks to everyone who responded! If I submit a photo that I take in Vancouver, I'll dedicate it to you three in the description for being the reason I was able to edit the shot and submit! Thanks!

The thought is very appreciated AJ... Although I do hear it's very hard to find ANYTHING to shoot in that area, as it's very unattractive.. ;)

Have fun man - Enjoy B.C. Be sure to tell us about it.
