Has anyone ever bent any pins in the CF slot on there camera? Or am I the only dumb ass to do something this stupid? One of my cards must have started to chip around one of the little holes for the pins to go in and when I put the card in the slot in the camera it kind of jammed.(I didn't push hard at all) When I was going to take the card out, one of the pins in the camera pulled out a little bit and another pin is bent. Now I can't put a CF card in.

That happened to someone else about 3 or 4 weeks ago... There was a thread about it. See? You're not the only dumbass around here! (just kidding, don't be so hard on yourself, we all make mistakes)

Bugger! I wouldn't have expected that with a top-brand card. I'll have to keep an eye on the connectors on mine, that's the type I use.
Hope you can get it corrected quickly!

I called around and was told that it would cost between $250 & $300 to have it fixed. So now do I spend the money on that or just get a 20D?

Well, the 300D in working order should still be worth more than that, so I'd say get if fixed, sell it and buy the 20D!

I bent my CF pin a few weeks back (see the thread that grandmarginal linked). For my particular problem it ended up costing me $185 (plus what it costed for me to ship to the local repair center) to get it fixed. If your problem is the same I'm not sure why it would cost $300.

When you send it it, they'll quote you and then it's up to you to decide if you want them to fix it (by paying) or if you want them to send it back (which still requires that you pay shipping, I believe)

I am confused how this can happen. The camera, at least mine does, has guides that have like no room for mis-alingment. How can you bend a pin or pins without abusing the card and/or the slot it goes into? (not implying you abused it, just the only word that came to mind)

Canon has told me that they can bend when inserting and removing cards either to hard or to fast.

If the socket on the card gets damaged, it can happen, even with light pressure.
