OK, search sucks on this site (sorry). It's good to get fresh opinions anyway.

Cokin ND filter $24 (plastic)
Lee ND filter $99 (glass)

What kind of difference in image degradation am I going to see? Opinions from anybody who's used both? Opinions from Cokin users really anal about their image quality?

I have problems with search as well (but others will bring you the links). My scant knowledge thinks Cokin actually have a colour cast (grey?) and Lee are true ND. I have .3 .6 and .9 Lee filters and love them (I can double them up to 5 stops) I think mine are resin not glass though.

I used to use a Cokin graduated ND to make overcast sky look more ominous (back when I lived in Iceland, you have to get creative about overcast skys because you get it a lot). It worked very well for that, and I remember mine being pure gray (no color cast). But it is totally un-coated, so I imagine you could get some nasty glare with it in sunshine.

If I remember correctly when I was looking into that sort of stuff I believe the Lee filters let in less light than the comparable cokin versions. In other words you have to go darker with the cokin to get the equivalent of the lee version. Maybe I'm wrong on this but I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

Edited for clarity.

I've never tried the Lee system, but it seems to be better built than the cokin system (metal vs plastic).
I've got the cokin system, and it's really useful when the conditions are right, but the resin scratches easily and the whole system seems a little flimsy. I've had some problems with flare and the whole system being either, on one hand too difficult to move or to do fine-tuning, or on the other hand; the whole thing being too "loose" and not stay in position. But I's probably just me and lack of familiarity with the system.
But hey, it's cheap and lot of different filters awailable. I'd go for the cokin to start with (it's so cheap). But if you find out that you actually use it a lot and the "technical" aspects of it cause you trouble, you can always switch to Lee.
If I had a bit of extra money I'd go for Lee now, but I totally broke.

Jason, just for you I just stuck my camera out the backdoor and snapped two shots.
100% crop straight from camera. First one without Cokin gradual ND filter, second one WITH.
