If you have nothing to do, you can check how long your digital camera might keep clicking away. At the Camera Shutter Life Expectancy Database are pages of user input as to when their camera âdiedâ, based upon shutter actuations.

"Remember though, that this site is only as good as the user input and will just raise your blood pressure. To this Canon 5D owner, it is not to be taken too seriously."

hmm....

how do you see how many clicks my camera has?

Same goes for the D70 info - someone put in information with 1 shutter shot failure and another put in four with over 8million exposures- 3 which are 'still alive' and the fourth with in failing.

That's just commentary for NerdGrind where I post Tech news. You guys can obviously make up your own minds :)

wow thats really a cool website, wonder if everyone there is telling the truth cause on my old Rebel XT 350 someone posted that they have Clicks: 148,000. wow I have only about 32,000 clicks so far on my old Rebel XT350

Just got my Rebel XTi-400 so I have a low count on that now

lol that 5D owner has 8 million something...hmmmm

Well, that's the problem. It could be an informative database, but there are always those jokers who will wreck it with stupid input.

I've posted on my blog about finding shutter actuations (something I've been wanting to figure out for a while, since I want to buy a new (used) 20D soon).

Blog post

Executive Summary: for Nikons it is pretty easy with IExif, but for Canons you really can't find it out. If you take care to keep your file numbering up to date, you can count shutter actuations that way (but that doesn't help on used cameras).

My 30D's shutter just failed after nearly 50,000 actuations--but it's not its fault IMO! Shooting in dust constantly, and it failed while shooting in the back of a pickup truck for many miles along a beach in Spain (horse event.) No space on that form for extenuating circumstances.

We'll see what Canon says, turning it in tomorrow for their pro 3 day turnaround. My 20D is still going strong with more than 40K.

I guess if I'm going to post I should post my camera life too:

My 350D has about 10K in six months.

I got it used, but I don't think the previous owner shot much with it, especially since the CF slot showed evidence of the card being inserted upside down (it is all bent up). No problems with the shutter, the CF is really flaky though, probably due to mistreatment above.
