When I opened 'Read This about IE' my virus software advised me I had been exposed to Exploit-URL Spoof.gen. Am shutting down and scanning.

Hmm, mine didn't (Symantec). I guess the question is, which one of us needs more accurate virus detection?! ;-D

He He! I don't think you have been infected or anything... It just telling you that you have been exposed to the URL spoofing kind of attack - which is true because there are several URLs on that page with spoofed URLs

I've edited the offending the post in the other thread. Somebody copy and pasted some text from a "how spoofing works" web site.

There really isn't any "trojan" or anything; the problem is simply that a shady web site could make a web address look like one thing (a link to microsoft, for example) and when you click on it, it actually takes you to another place (some porn site, for example) because of a "bug" in many of the browsers out there. You certainly aren't "infected"; it is just a warning that some of the links may not be what they seem.

...and to fix that, you need to perform a Windows update.

Or just one of them. ;-)

Actually the spoofing thing does affect quite a few browsers; it is just that the other browsers display "goofy" characters in the the status bar when you are hovering over the link.

That's why it's not considered a spoof in those browsers.
