Friends and I have organized the New Orleans group. I figured you all might be interested in your city.

Sorry if this is a repost. I searched and only found 1 small reference.

Ha! I was just looking for references myself, as I was going to post the same thing.

It should be lots of fun. I am coordinating the Phoenix, AZ walk, and there are also walks scheduled in Tucson and Prescott. I scheduled my Phoenix walk so if folks want, they can attend the Tucson walk in the morning, and Phoenix in the evening.

ETA: The walks are being held Saturday, August 23, at various times.

I just registered for the Phoenix walk. Looking forward to this. Copper Square is a great starting place because Heritage Park is right there too, along with the new convention center.

Just a note for anyone who's seeing their walk is "full" -- go ahead and write to the group leader and see if they will send you the full details of where and when to meet. I've gotten all the "group leader" communications (I'm leading the walk in my city), and they made it clear that we should not "turn away" anyone, nor are we going to take attendance -- the 50-person-limit it just to keep the turnout to something reasonably tame and manageable. Of those first 50 to sign up, you've got to figure probably 1/3 or so won't show up, and the other 2/3 will invite friends, etc.

In short, if your walk looks full, don't be discouraged. Ping the group leader by email, and in case you don't hear anything, "just show up."

I signed up for Minneapolis (or it could have been Sao Paulo, Brazil). Only 23 signed up in our group.

Does anyone know if this is a "NAPP" only thing? Can non-NAPP peeps join the walk?

Absolutely anyone who wants to go, can.

It's very informal -- it's not going to be any kind of "class," etc -- just a get-together for a bunch of photographers to walk around together and take pictures. I'll be encouraging my group to help each other and try little informal "here's how I do this" talks amongst themselves during the walks, but each group leader will have their own ideas. At the end, the walks (should) meet at a restaurant or other suitable "meeting place" and just let everyone hang out, talk photography, chimp over their day's photos, etc.

Another tip for any other group leaders -- try to get models to come out and walk with you. That will give you people who you-already-have-permission-to-takes-pictures-of to stand in and pose for your walkers, etc. Try to encourage your photographers to work out an information TFP with them, or similar.

I'm going to bring my laptop (and encourage others to do the same) and show off Lightroom 2 at dinner-time as well. If there are enough LR users, perhaps we'll trade tips and tricks, etc.

You should get an automated verification message. Once your email is verified, you are on "the list," and your group leader will have your name and email address -- they should contact you (probably as a group-email; I wouldn't expect a lot of individual messages because of the group size) just to let you know what's going on. If you don't hear from them close to the 23rd, drop them a message yourself (there is a link on the city page to contact the group leader).

If in doubt, and you have enough info on when and where to meet on the city page, "just show up."

They need to add more walks per city. Atlanta is full, but they are only doing around Centennial Olympic Park/CNN. There's Buckhead, Midtown, even Decatur...

Sounds good to me! All you (or someone) need(s) to do is sign up as a group leader!

This effort is completely community-based -- pretty-much whoever takes the time to sign up and ask to lead a walk can do so. It's not like there is someone dolling(sp?) out sites to organize walks around -- it's just up to whoever says they want to do it. (There is an approval process where a human-being reviews your application for sanity, etc., but I don't think it's terribly hard to get approved for a walk.

Which brings up another great idea -- if the walks near you are full -- click on the "become a walk leader" link and start one of your own! :P

Its not as easy to sign up as you would think. Scott is currently turning down people who want to lead a group. Not because there are other walks in the area, but because he is too overwhelmed with responses.I wonder what he expected? Anyway they are limiting the number of people to each walk, and they are turning down people who want to lead groups. Doesnt seem like much of a worldwide photo walk, when you dont let it happen worldwide. :D

Yup, I just found out about this yesterday. I'm pretty dumbfounded myself. You've summed it up very well with your comments above. Wish I could offer something useful to say, but without their logistical support, it'll be hard to schedule and start a walk of your own, unless you just take it upon yourself to advertise and contact folks, etc.

Or, more succinctly, Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

DPCers should group up in those cities and photograph the photogs on the photo walk.

Be sure to wear your colors and remember the DPC gang sign so we can identify each other. :P
