OK, OK... frames have actually been up for a little over 2 and a half weeks, but we wanted to make sure everything was running smoothly before we announced them. Such has been the case, and so...
We're proud to announce frames on DPCPrints!
What does this mean for you, you ask? Well, aside from the convenience for your customers, it means you can make a commission on frame sales. To earn a 10% commission on any frame sold on one of your prints, you simply need to suggest a frame style for that print. Your customer does not need to buy that suggested frame style in order for you to get your commission -- you just have to have made the effort! :)
Frames are currently availabe in 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 18x24, and 20x30 -- each size with varying styles. We've build a custom framing engine to allow customers to preview their framed print in each of the available styles. Try it out -- it's pretty cool :)
Now, my public speaking professor would smack me right now for pointing out our weakness, but we want everyone to know that we have higher goals for frames. Right now, we do not offer matting. Though we certainly want to, it's completely a question of availability of that service from our printing partner, EZPrints. There is light, though -- matting has been discussed as a potential added service for the future, and we're certainly working to try to make that happen. If you want to see matting on DPCPrints, be sure to speak up here, and we'll make sure the right people see it.
We're also hoping to add more styles and sizes in the future, but that is entirely dependent on the performance of the frames we've got... so consider buying a frame with your print purchase, if for nothing else than to help that cause! ;)
To coincide with the launch of frames, we've also unveiled...
A New Help Center for DPCPrints
The new help center should help customers (and sellers!) more easily find answers to their questions. As part of our effort to more well-define the DPCPrints service, we've also moved all selling-related FAQs over to that site. They're all available from the front page of the newhelp center.
Since we've so happy with how it came out, we also plan to bring this new, searchable help center concept over to DPC. That probably doesn't affect you, the experienced site user, too much ... but it'll certainly help the new folks :)
That's all for now. Stay tuned :)

Word of the day: Matte! A frame without a matte is just a border!

Dear DPC admins
I would like to formally request that mattings be added to the buyer option. A framed photograph without matting is like pancakes without maple syrup; a car without wheels; a guitar without strings; apple pie without vanilla ice cream; winter without snow; Jacko without a macro lens.....
I think you get what I mean ;-)

i checked out the frames a week or so ago, and was glad to see the upgrade. i think mattes would be a another great addition. although only in black and white as options. having too many color options will make it difficult for buyers to choose.
thanks for the changes.

A frame without a mat isn't just 'a bit missing' it is a photo waiting to get destroyed, sticking to the glass and being ruined. Might be good from EZprints perspective to get the repeat printing business, but it isn't just a decorative item.
Glass touching a photo damages the print.

Yup. mattes are most definatley needed.
Also, more selection of frames is desperately needed.
Thanks for bringing it this far. I think this adds a nice feature to the site. |

I, too, would like matting to be available, preferably in black and white only. Frames can really overpower images, especially relatively small images--unless there's a matte between the image and the frame. Some small images, for example, can look really great with a wide expanse of matte and a relatively narrow frame around them, but terrible with just a frame, especially a fairly heavy one. |

I'd like a range of mattes and frames available. |

A range of mats would be a wonderful addition to the frames (which is already a great step forward - thanks!)

Was excited to see the framing option added, but have to agree that mats would be a real plus also. It seems to me I see more internet photo sales that offer the print matted w/out frames more often than framed w/out matting. The preview of the print with the frame selection is definately awesome.
Thanks for the adding the framing option. |
