A couple new features on the forums for you fine folks...

First, thread options are available to our members only as a way to thank them for continuing to supporting the site. With our new thread options, you can...

- Watch a Thread. This is an easy way to keep an eye on threads of interest to you. You can quickly see a list of your "watched threads". Any threads you're watching will show up with a pair of eyes on the folder!

- E-mail Replies to a Thread. Another way to keep track of threads of interest, any thread you mark to "E-Mail Replies" will e-mail you when someone replies to the thread. It will only e-mail you once until you visit that thread again, so you won't be swamped with e-mails for active threads. Of course, it also won't e-mail you when you reply to that thread.

- Ignore a Thread. Keep a thread off your home page by ignoring it.

We've also improved searching and made it more prominent to cut down on duplicate threads. Last but not least, we made the first half of our improvements to folder highlighting.

For those techies who want to know... Folders will now dim individually as you read them during your session. If you leave the site and come back, all folders will be highlighted based on the last time you visited any thread. We will probably add in the ~near future saving this thread-specific highlight data for when you leave the site, but it depends on performance of the new upgrades.

For those who haven't heard the rumors, the next 6-8 weeks will be spent heavily developing our overhaul to DPCPrints. As soon as we launch those, we'll be shifting back to take care of lots of feature requests and site improvements.

Stay tuned...

D & L :)

If you decide to 'unwatch' a thread for lack of a better term, is there a way to do this without ignoring it totally?

Yep, you'll see a "Clear" option in your dropdown once you set a thread option.

Oh yeah, and one more thing... Our hard-working Site Council got icon makeovers courtesy of DPChallenge's favorite icon artist, konador.

Thank you for putting the search forums thingy on the front page. I really really HOPE people use it. I'm sure I'm not alone at seeing the same thread over and over again. But now I can ignore them too. YEAH!

I got it now, but Ben's still looks like a king :-P

In my preferences if I set the "show rant" option, but I explicitly ignore a thread in rant, it still shows up on the front page.

p.s. A most excellent and welcome addition to make the forums more manageable. (Any chance we can ignore a whole forum "section"?)

Update:
Actually, it looks like the "show rant" option makes it so ignored threads aren't ignored anymore.

Update:
And now it looks fixed.

A combination of my "dinosaur" status and a partial tribute to the Grateful Dead ... besides -- it kinda scares me too! My original description was Jolly Roger with shades ...

That's scheduled as part of the next forum upgrade.

Thanks! Also, it looks like the Community Forums: Threads active in the past 24 hours... page doesn't honour ignoring threads. Intention or oversight?

I knew I had one more place to edit! ;) This page just got its makeover, too. Much more useful now, and it shows watched icons. "Ignore" is ignored (teehee) for that page, but that could be changed.

Great job on the improvements. Wheres the "1 minute ago" feature? :) I think its better than displaying the time of the last reply :)
