I am so excited I had to share this:

So my Canon 20D is about 6 years old now and has already begun giving me problems. I've been drooling for the 7D since it came out, I read all the reviews and I was just dreaming for one, but I didn't want to pay $1599 which is the lowest price I found (excluding non reputable retailers which I will not deal with).

So today right before leaving work, I checked eBay and I found an auction for a brand new one, USA version, that had 2 hours left. I checked the seller feedback and it was nothing less than spectacular. The auction was at $1300 with about 2 hours to go, so I figured what the hell, I'll throw a bid there. I placed a bid for $1326 knowing that I wasn't going to get it anyway, I mean all the previous similar auctions I watched ended no less than high 1400s.

So I got home, had dinner, watched some TV and totally forgot about the auction. Few hours later, I check my email and I find the ebay winning notifications for my brand new Canon 7D. Can't wait to put my hand on it.

Like you I have wanted the 7D no less than 6 months before it's release. Still working towards that, but I have tried my sister's new 7D that she got for Xmas and the results were amazing. I love the camera and now I REALLY can't wait. One thing that really blew me away was the color accuracy straight out of the camera due to the new metering etc. It was perfect with little need for adjustment. Simply blows my XSi out of the water which is to be expects. I was NOT let down by my hands on tests. My sister got hers based on my thorough research and she LOVES it.

Congrats to you on your new camera!

Did that same upgrade (20D->7D) in Feb.... You will hate every second of it (not) :-)

We're another 20D-7D upgrade here, but with a twist; when Penny and I got together, she was using the Sony dSLR A700 (with 18-200mm lens) that Whiterook now owns. Convinced that it made sense to share lenses, we first bought a used 5D, which I appropriated as my primary camera, and Penny started using the 20D and the Sony interchangeably, depending on which lenses she wanted to work with: wide angle/macro was 20D, and walkaround was the Sony. Then we bought the 7D with the 18-135mm lens, and this became her go-to camera. The 20D moved into backup duty, and the Sony moved to Casa de Whiterook.

She's been delighted with the 7D. I love the way it feels and works too, but rarely get to take pictures with it. You're gonna swoon...

Got the Camera on Thursday, JUST WOW! It blows my 20D away in every aspect and it's worth every penny. Now I have some learning to do to master the new controls and features.

Bah! I bet the 20D's shutter is much louder. :)

You're right, it sounded like reloading a gun!

The shutter mechanism is definitely louder on the 7D. There are interesting videos on YouTube comparing many Canon shutter sounds all the way from entry level to the 1D series.

I thought the contrary! My 20D definitely sounded much louder than the 7D, unless my ears are getting old, which is a possibility!

Check out this video on YouTube: Canon Shutter Comparison in Burst Mode It doesn't include the 20D though so hard to compare I guess.
