I was thinking if we could make teams for people that are beginning and people that know a bit more, depending on their intersts
lets say nature - portraits - and so on
like if someone would sign up to be the teacher or student and say what area they are most interested/experienced in, and then we could team up two and two
now the students would have to be willing to learn and take hard critique and the teacher have to be willing to give critique and help out
like the "students" would take photos for the challenges and the "teacher could give him critiques tell him what he could do better and give him some post processing tips
and ofcourse the "teacher" is not allowed to vote on his "students" entry
I think it could be very educational and growing for both parties

so Im gonna be the first to sign up as a "teacher" if there is someone I can give something to, and my main interests in photography are portraits, street photography, blurry photos, b/w, etc...
so if anyone wants to sign up just say if you want to be "student" or "teacher" and interested area
its only for people with a real passion!
yayy!! What do you think???
(sorry about my broken english)

So here is the list:

"Teachers"
heida student - Shanny403 - ScooterMcNutty
Judi student - kprasad9375 - Hot_Pixel
BrennanOB student - Fiora
Mephisto student- Adz
vawendy student - NiallOTuama

Yo_Spiff student - Galatia_n and thrumyiis
ScooterMcNutty student - bergiekat
paulbtlw student - StickInMind - PGerst - bmartuch

I would LOVE to be your student! I'm mainly into B&W and have only been shooting since last September so there's A LOT I can learn from you. Let me know if you're interested!

Great!
I see youre into b/w and portraits
so can you take critique without being offended? cause I will try to find something wrong with your photo no matter how good it is and its good for both of us I think!
and do you have photoshop? sep?

Great idea!!! I have been nagging a few people here and there but an organized approach sounds good. I am definitely a student, interests:
blurry photos, nature photo impressionism, PP with CS5 and NIK, majestic landscapes, travel photography (I am going cycle touring to France in September, I'd like to come back with better photos than last year :)

I LOVE critique. How can I get better if everyone sugar coats things! As long as you explain why it stinks I'm happy haha.
Thanks so much for doing this. What a great idea!
I have photoshop CS5, a Sony A300, a telephoto and a prime lens. Like I said, I'm just starting out so that's all I could afford.

Jeez, Heida and Judi are the first teachers? That puts 99.5% of us in the student skill set.

This sounds great, and could be very very helpful!!!
I would also love to be a student, specifically for Portrait Photography.
In the past I have just taken lots of nature shots, but my interest lately has been leaning towards portraits more and more.

I'm new to photography, don't have any specific interest and just want to learn anything about it. Glad to be a student. How do I start?

There was a time a few years ago when a "mentoring" movement was started; it was similar to this, and it had some traction for a while, but in the end it fizzled out. Was pretty useful for a while, though. In any case, it's a lovely idea. I'm always interested in being part of something like this, but Penny and I are gonna be away for 5 weeks, starting in a week-and-a-half, so I'll have to check in after I get back home and see where I might fit in.

What a great idea. I would love to be a student. Have had my camera for about 10 months and very keen to learn. I like to shoot most everything but enjoy street and candid portraiture, low light/night, and I know next to nothing about photoshop but have CS4 and will probably do a course soon to learn the basics.

I really want to learn more so put me down as a student. Great idea!
04/26/2011 08:39:08 PM · #17
Ok I just made the list at my first post
need more "Teachers"
you dont have to be an expert in anything! there are lots of people who know more than the ones that are beginning and you can still learn as much from being a teacher as a student!
04/26/2011 08:44:15 PM · #18
OK, if the standards are low enough I'd be happy to sign on as a teacher.

That would be great but I am not sure I could help you in abstract as that area is my downfall!! Architecture, abstract are probably two areas I couldn't help with.

I want to be a student. I am mostly interested in portrait photography, but want to improve in all areas. I like the idea of one on one.
04/26/2011 08:57:46 PM · #21
I'm up for dropping some science on someone who is interested in portraiture, street and/or documentary photography.
I'll take payment in bottles of beer! Wait, this is virtual tutoring. Damn it..

btw, are mentors supposed to chose their students, or the other way around?
