Hi, I think my photo for the Queen Song challenge is going to be disqualified due to the fact I can't read rules (my bad). So just to be clear...

According to DP Challenge in regards to the open phone challenge. I can use any app on my phone that is capable of taking pictures. Even if it creates a border, applies effects like a 70s style, extreme vignetting etc.

As long as it does not add shapes to the photo or any virtual items and is taken with in the allocated time frame it should be good? right?

No, wrong. Only use the native phone app. Read this this thread, particularly post #32 and #43.

Okay I'm confused.

It says the reason why 3rd party apps will be DQ'd is because they do not record EXIF Data. So I took a shot using Camera+ v ersion 2.2 developed by Lisa Bettany. Here are the results...

So would using Camera + still be grounds for a DQ even though it preserves EXIF data?
04/29/2011 02:29:21 PM · #4
The Camera+ app does not retain ALL the exif data, so an image captured from within Camera+ cannot be used as a validation file.

However, it is possible to capture an image with your iPhone using the native camera app and apply any of the Camera+ editing features to that file. The only drawback is the inability to use the very nice Camera+ feature of setting focus in one place and setting exposure in a different part of the scene.

But its all there. The image on the right is from the iphone with no filters or anything. The same data is in the Camera + file. It's no big deal, I just find it odd.

FWIW here is a review of iPhone camera apps by David Pogue in the NY Times -- I make no claim as to their legality for any challenges, but they look interesting, if you have an iPhone ...

Personally I love Hipstamatic a lot of fun anticipating what the image will look like. I even purchased their I phone case.

My entry is #1. Since I suggested this challenge, I think it's only right that I get the ball rolling.

Does Iphone 4 have exif info in them?

Yes Judi if using the native camera in the phone. If the picture is taken via an app, such as Hipstamatic, then the exif may not be adequate for DPC validation purposes. (This has been verified by SC - particularly for Camera+ I believe)

I got bored and hacked my Motorola Backflip to install Android Froyo 2.2.1 ... I'm wondering if it's gonna do anything to the camera data.

Bummer! My new Windows phone camera isn't working, it seems to be a problem that has been prevalent. All I get is a pink aura against a white background, whenever I try to take a photo. It used to work fine, until one day I went to take a photo.....

Looks like I have to skip this one :( For the first time (after 6 years) I downloaded some "photos" to my computer. Just terrible, unless you like fog. Perhaps I should polish the lens :)

Just plug in the usb lead and open the folder to see the pics. Itunes is not needed for this.

hmmm... my phone gives me the option to upload to picasa. But it's a 1.5 mb file, but it only brings up a small image to picasa, and I don't see a way to get a larger version...

When I am out taking photos with my big-boy cameras I am tending to forget about the phone cam challenge and then realize after I have moved on that I just missed a good opportunity for a phone cam shot.
