Submitted my Fractal entry and like every hour or two I'm back on here looking it over again.

I'm worried it's not going to be good enough but I honestly don't have any better ideas for it.

I kind of like the shot though, too. Hence my indecision and my constant obsessing.

Anyone else get like this? This is basically an appeal to DPC, make me feel less alone in my obsessiveness.

I think everyone feels like that at some point! Sometimes I still fret over a submission and wonder if I should pull it before voting starts. More often than not, I leave it in and then fret over the rubbish, steadily-declining score for the next week, haha.

my problem is re-edits. it's not uncommon for me to be uploading <entryname>4, 5 etc

No worries, you're not alone, there's a whole bunch of us.:)

I think once you've been around a while though, you sort of know when you've maximized a photo's potential at doing well here. The real skill is being able to love a shot but accept that it might only be loved by a few. If you can look at one of your photos and say with all honesty, yes I really like that, then you don't have to worry about the voters at all, it's already a success.

I obsess like crazy. Keep checking the entry, over and over. A lot of times I do extremely minor re-edits and submit v3, v4, v5, v6, there's no end to it. A normal person wouldn't even see the differences. I'm getting better about this though.

I think it is normal, I used to do it more when I first started, now I usually submit and forget about it. Unless of course I really really like the photo and think it has a chance of doing well then I check it many times. And usually there are at least 4 or 5 versions that get submitted.

Sometimes it helps to have someone look over a couple of your versions. I know I have a few trusted people that I will let look over a couple versions before a challenge if I am questioning it. It helps settle your mind a bit to have another persons perspective.

Heh, I'd be surprised if a large percentage says they DON'T obsess over re-editing their entries:-) Typically, I go back to tweak or re-edit anywhere from 3 to 7 times and look at the work on two separate screens.

It's certainly common; I know I do it. As far as "normal" well that's another question entirely! ;-)

In the past I've found this is a problem easily solved by procratinating, and submitting in the last 30 minutes or so. Lately I've been having to shoot and submit early, so I can empathize ...

Every. Single. Time.
08/19/2012 12:43:08 PM · #12
ha! obsession, revision, procrastination, rethinking absolutely everything... that's why we are crazy here.
08/19/2012 12:46:21 PM · #13
I guess I am an oddball. I will sometimes do two versions or different images and just see what they look like posted before picking one to use. Once I decide on one, it usually stays with no revision.

Admittedly; most of my entries get done at the last minute (mix of lack of free time and procrastination) so there wouldn't be a chance to do several re-edits or switching anyway. I almost always don't show my work to others except in a league situation, so I'm not compelled to make any further changes based on feedback. Usually immediately after voting starts I wish I had picked the other edit or image to use :P

Nah, not at all.. I'd love to stay and chat more about this, but I'm afraid I have to run, gotta go re-edit my challenge entry again.

I do the same thing...I purposely won't (typically) start editing or looking at images until 11 or so...that limits me.

On the other hand, I've missed a few deadlines that way!

I am glad to read this thread and know I am in good company. I have only submitted to three challenges...but compulsively rechecked the images until the deadline...then had to check the score almost hourly. Sheesh!

I'm doing it now... grrr....
08/19/2012 02:00:57 PM · #18
I do it, too. And I also have to admit that I have one in voting now that I WISH I'd done this with. Had I reviewed it even once, I would have seen what I now consider a real shortcoming and one that could have been improved greatly with a little more tweaking :(

Just did to may latest entry and I'm sure I'll be doing it again...and again...and again!

confession is the first step to recovery, Bear! ;-)

but i also do this, and i guess the best spin on it is that it really helps to develop a "critical" eye, hopefully in the best possible sense.

as a little tangent... with the ever increasing methods which are being used to "see" below the top layer of some of the great masterpieces, it is becoming clear that the Masters made many, many changes to their works ... so we are striving to be masters, albeit in the digital age.

I think the pic "I" love should come first but I often pic what I think "they" love. See Saw Marjorie Daw. The problem is that I don't often get what "THEY" love right, so I should have learned by now to go with what "I" love.... let's see... does this mean I obsess over it? HA HA HA whattodowhattodowhattodo (does anybody remember Hermans Hermits? )

Not me.

Perhaps it is due to the fact that I don't care enough but, I submit (albeit rarely) and look at it after the voting has ended. I also have turned of score viewing capabilities and that way truly do not get offended by what some might perceive as "Troll" voting.
