Lost is pleased that the postcards were appreciated.

So let's make a start...

We set off on Friday evening and soon reached the Tamar, which marks the border between Devon and Cornwall. I think Lost was far too excited as he wouldn't stand still for the 15 seconds it took to get the photo.

We continued the drive into Cornwall and stopped for the night at a Travelodge at St Austel.

Early the next morning we set off, planning to go straight to Lands End. However as we made our way deeper into Cornwall we noticed that the tide was out and on the hill down into Penzance I thought that St Michaels Mount is a good place to go when the tide is out, so off we went to Marazion.

We got out of the car, and Lost posed, stood on the wall, then rushed down onto the beach.

Lost was then keen to explore over on the causeway.

While Lost was modelling his new hat

a couple came over and asked what was going on. Lost explained his trip to them and gave them one of the cards that I had printed so they could follow his progress.

As we didn't have time to go over to St Michaels Mount and climb to the top, we set off again, but not very far as I needed to get something to ease the symptoms of a cold, so we went into Penzance. As we were driving to the car-park, Lost got all excited by something he saw and insisted that we go there first.

After a little shopping, we came across a sign that Lost's arrival had been expected?

Pressing on we got to the main point in coming to Cornwall:- Lands End
(We would have gone to the Minack Theatre on the way, but like most attractions it wasn't open at this time of year. Hindsight suggests that Lost should have flown down to the southern hemisphere first)

The shop was open so Lost bought a couple of postcards, which he sent today on this way to the postoffice.

We got lucky with the famous signpost

Just as we finished our self portrait, the "official" photographer turned up and roped-off the area, so only paid-for photo opportunities from then on.

Lost was wondering who he would meet on the other side of this ocean.

I'm a bit short of words right now, so here's some pictures at Lanyon Quoit and MĂȘn-an-Tol

When we were done with the neolithic monuments Lost got a ride back to the car

and we continued on to St Ives, where a lunch of fish and chips was had overlooking the harbour

After lunch we went down onto the beach

Now the original plan had been to to go onto Tintagel, but as the time had moved on we would have got there too late, i.e. after sunset (did I say we are doing this at the wrong time of year?) we went home, stopping for a brief but futile attempt at getting a motion blur entry and a quick look at the shops in Truro but no photo opportunities presented themselves.

Next day...

We decided on a spur of the moment trip to Plymouth, first to the Hoe

The to the Barbican, where Lost encountered the Giant Metal Prawn

For our final stop, we popped up onto Dartmoor, where a dusting of snow remained from the overnight fall.

While we were taking photos here, Lost wandered off into the bushes and found a "letter-box", so he signed the book and left one of his cards.

For the final picture, here's Lost posing with Widecombe in the background.

I had thought we might climb a couple of the Tors, but it was cold and my head cold was getting to me, so we went back to the warm of my house, but not before Lost posed with his souvenir flags in front of Saddle Tor and unexpectedly provided a shoehorn entry for Motion Blur VI:

The End

Have you thought just how many there are going to be to choose from when everybody has contributed? (although I will admit to having over-done it slightly)

The more the better mate..

Sadly I have not heard back from Children in Need charity yet.. There are many other charities around such as the World Wildlife Fund .. I will send them another mail asking if they have received the first one and give them a week or 2 to respond then I will use another one if I get no reply..

He's fast asleep in his box and will be going to the post office in about an hour and a half.

I'll try and get most of the rest of the pictures up this evening after work.

Update: He's at the Post office where Hazel is looking after him.

Before he left he had a look at where he will be going in the coming weeks/months:

Kevin, you've given Lost a fabulous start to his trip. The rest of us have a lot to do to keep him so well entertained.

I am now taking care of Lost, I will take him out later this week .
I will not be offering the wonderful amount of time that has been given to him, but will take a few snaps.

He's a very self-sufficient penguin. Just give him some biscuits, a good book, and a window and he'll keep himself entertained whilst you work :-)

@MAK I think you should be able to edit it to add where you took Lost if you want to.

Just to confirm if I'm doing things right so far: You said images 1000x800 pixels, so that's what I've posted. Does this also mean that, for the book, all the images will need to be landscape orientation?

Kevin

I loved every bit of Lost's adventure with you, Kevin!

Thanks for sharing!

I'm finished adding my photos of Lost.

It was a fun time. I enjoyed having Lost to stay and showing him the sights. I could probably have found enough places to go to keep us busy for a month. I did feel that I needed to keep the interest going after he arrived, hence the contrived shots in my house.

I only had 2 people ask me what we were up to, so I didn't get to give away many of the cards I printed to publicise his trip.

I'm now looking forward to seeing all of your exploits with Lost.

Kevin

Yes please 1000x1000 longest end landscape or portrait mode.

I still have not heard nothing back from CIN and might go with another charity. To be honest I am a bit shocked at them ignoring my mail.

What do your cards look like? An idea for the rest of us?

Like this:

I've put the open document format file, icons and a PDF into my Sugar Sync folder- 2 paynekj / cards
I printed them onto A4 sized card and cut them out myself.

I assume everyone has watched the superb DVD "Lost and Found" - it is one of my favourite animated films and everyone should watch it, especially if they like Penguins:)
