What's up guys?

I've been on a long hiatus from photography for awhile, been busy with other life things. I stumbled on the site tonight and found myself thumbing through pictures. It's great to take sometime with some great photography again, there's some incredible talent around here.

Anyway - what's up with all the challenges being Advanced Editing? Whatever happened to Basic, 'make it happen in the camera,' challenges? I liked those...

Wow, Chris? It's been what, 5 YEARS? Good to see you back...

Even 5 years ago, basic wasn't all that basic. We did have "minimal" though, didn't we? THAT's the get-it-right-in-camera ruleset. Functionally, there's not a hell of a lot of difference between basic and advanced except for spot-editing possibilities, and it's kind of died out...

Thanks, Robert - good to be back. Graduated college and blinked... and poof - it's 2013!

Minimal, yesss. I guess the amount of editing is a little intimidating. Whatever, only one way to get over that - START SHOOTING AGAIN.

As Robert noted, advanced really doesn't require super complex editing. While I've placed high in everything from minimal to expert, basic and advanced only differentiate themselves by spot editing, so there's really not a ton to it. If you can mask, you're doing advanced. That's all there is to it! Don't feel intimidated, and welcome back to things!
