What's with all the "No date restrictions" challenges lately? Not a fan. Once in a great while is ok. I guess it's to inflate participation, but goes against the nature of the challenges and particularly unnecessary in an Extended Editing challenge, IMO. Am I alone?

"I guess it's to inflate participation... " - Yep, my guess too.

Not just that one ... also for Winter Landscape (in voting) and Architecture IX (accepting entries).

That's three in a very short period of time ...

If we are doing this format it might be fun to have a challenge called "the most favorite shot you have ever taken" and allow even one you have already entered in a challenge. It could be called "the best of the best!"

Definitely something new and a damn good idea!

Disagree. This would be a GREAT challenge event to run as the very last one on DPChallenge ever. When that day comes, then this would be the challenge event to have. The ultimate popularity contest - no anonymity whatsoever.

What do you mean that it would be a popularity contest? Would you vote differently if you knew who the artist was? I don’t think most of the members would be effected by that. I think we are all mature enough to vote on the quality, creativity, and uniqueness of a picture regardless of the artist.

Sure I would (potentially vote differently) - human nature. There's many people here that I like and get along with, but there's also the flip side of that.

Ask yourself this ... why is anonymity a core of challenges as they're run now?

It adds to the suspense?!! I guess I am just too trusting.

Have only just spotted the 'no date restrictions' and think this is a fabulous idea. One a month works well depending on the subject (landscape and architecture work well for this type of thing). Many of us have images that never see the light of day because they were shot when on holiday or at a place you might never go again and there was no set subject at the time that allowed these images to be used in competition. This gives everyone the chance to have that amazing image put into a challenge (provided you can now find it in your archive!!). There could also be a limit placed on this in that it has to be under 5 years old or 2 years etc etc.

If this increases participation even better and isn't that something we are trying to do.

In regard to using them for extended editing images I think this is even more relevant. If I want to do a composite image I could then look through old images for the bits and pieces I need to create the new image.

Well done to those with vision to try something new.

... and ANOTHER one ('Facial Fails'). Guess Langdon is getting desperate. ... or maybe the challenge suggestion bin is empty?

On the positive side, at least they're not all running under Expert editing.

THere IS a dearth of interesting, viable challenges coming over the transom right now. "Facial Fails", of course, is just extremely topical right now, and it seemed a natural for archival as well... We WILL be seeing more archival challenges going forward, they seem to encourage participation.

Now if we could just have some more killer imaginative, juicy topics to add to the bin.

P.s. and how is this challenge possible under Standard Editing using the techniques linked to in the description? It talks about drawing in eyebrows, etc., which seem to drift into Extended Editing territory.

That's only one image for a whole month and I may have had other interesting images in that time also.

I personally love all the changes.
Well done to those who have been putting in the effort for this.
Appreciated.

I haven't been here for so long I don't even remember where to post...lol....current challenge......."Oblivion. etc..."

I intended to comment on each entry and be a good doobie member back to have fun........(can you say obscurata...obscuratus...one of those latin words.)

I paused so many times trying to figure out how the entries related to the topic that I fell in here to see if I was the only one...then saw that only 4 yes, FOUR people were online...is EVERYONE out drinking or out to dinner? is anyone else having trouble rating, commenting or figuring out this topic?

I'm drinking. At home.
03/09/2018 08:20:00 PM · #525
Now that you remind me, I need a drink...see ya later.
