At this point, I don't see the need to open a new photo essay discussion forum for each challenge. We'll just have this general discussion thread to share information, ideas and announcements. For those interested in looking back, I've linked all the previous photo essay forums below. If you're new to this genre of photography I highly recommend reading these previous forums and viewing some of the wonderful stories that have been told.

To wrap up 2014, December 30th is the next due date for photo essays. We’ll open a new forum on the due date for posting stories.

Guys,

Great turnout for the October photo essays! We ended up with 11 narratives which is better than I expected. What’s always a treat is the diversity in subject and style. We have some amazing story tellers.

posthumous and cory started this side challenge back in January and I was immediately hooked on this genre. For those interested in more than eye candy it’s a wonderful exercise. I felt the side challenge was being neglected so I’ve tried to keep it going. I’m planning on taking a break from DPC. While I’m gone, try to keep this side challenge alive.

Enjoy

Thanks so much for keeping this alive. Whilst I haven't been able to participate as often as I would have liked, I've thoroughly enjoyed reading and looking at the entries. Hopefully we can at least manage December.

Found a little inspiration so I'm in for December. Will be tough to surpass October's turnout but I'm hopeful. Start collecting, organizing, scrutinizing, reorganizing... you know the drill.

I'm in. I mean I will be in. In the fullness of time.

I am in even if I fail to produce a cohesive one.
The exercise is worth the time and seems to be such an excellent endeavour for participants on this site where the topic changes twice a week.

I'm loving this side challenge - it's been the most enjoyable challenge we've had in a long time.

I'm definitely in for December.

I'm in. Hopefully I've brought everyone's expectations down to a reasonable level with my last essay!!

I'm in too, I thoroughly enjoy viewing and participating.

I'll be camping at the seaside. If I have reception, I'll submit something.

Thank you for looking after it.

Soooo... Who is going to take over the torch?

I'll keep it going as long as there is interest. My DPC challenge entries have slowed down temporarily. I haven't taken any pictures since Halloween.

My December essay is done. Anybody else finished? Time to start thinking of an idea for February.

Putting the pressure on eh? I'm on vacation at the moment, so will hopefully have something within the next two weeks :)

Well, since you're so far in front of schedule, I've got some 13 odd jobs round the house that were supposed to be done in 2013. It will take you no more than 2.5 days per job, so if you hurry up you'll be finished with them just before Christmas.

I'll see you tomorrow, bright and early then?

No camera's allowed.

I'm just prodding the campfire. An attempt to keep the story telling alive.

OK Henry, I'm finished too. When are we posting these? How about anytime during December? I think that would work better because Christmas/New Year is holidays (in many countries), so we're distracted. And also because if we spread the essay posts out a bit, it will mean we aren't being overwhelmed with a dozen or more essays at once, appreciation and comment-wise.

If you and I go first it will mean we can then go to Herman's place and make a start on those odd jobs. There'd probably be a beer or two in it for us.

Well, I ran into some conceptual or technical problems - can't decide which - for the November essay. Looking for rebirth for December.

And I was so impressed with the first two essays that I couldn't bear to look further. Truly, this happens.

Beer? Gmff... I'll be paying with red wine - a bottle an hour.

This ought to get my show on the road..

I'll be taking your pictures as you work, for an insightful essay.

Good idea on the staggering of essays, I do not know what my bandwidth is going to be like at the seaside.

Paul, sounds like a plan. Herman never mentioned beer, not even peanuts. Opening the December essay posting forum early might work too. We could see how it goes for December and then decide on February later.

Anybody have an issue opening the essay posting forum on December 1st? You would still have the entire month of December to submit your essay.

I think my December essay will be my October essay with words added.

unless those pictures have no words.

something about words.

On December 1st, we'll open a forum for posting December essays. This isn't a deadline, you have the entire month to submit your essay. So take your time and enter when you're ready. Last chance for 2014!

Please watch for activity in the posting forum since we have a 31 day submission window. My hope is that essays submitted later in the month get the same attention as those entered early. As always, we encourage and appreciate your commenting.

OK Henry thanks. I'll post after the first week because I have a November FS entry that's also part of my essay.
11/25/2014 04:32:20 PM · #25
Paul, thanks for the heads up. Since you're going to wait a week or so, I'll go ahead and post early. You're a tough act to follow so this will work out perfect.
