This might need a little bit of tweaking, but the basic idea is to shoot a person or people in a situation that leaves the viewer to imagine the backstory that precedes the scene. The scene could be a candid or a manufactured situation. Voters could précis their version of the backstory in the comments field. I would imagine that this could produce some interesting images and some entertaining comments too. Advanced editing.

Good suggestion. It's like the Aftermath challenge, 'cept the opposite. That challenge didn't offer up much of a description.

Description
Title your image "Aftermath", and shoot to fit the title.

Sounds good to me too.

I have an instant idea for this! Let's do it!!!
But - it would very much be like "aftermath", because to keep it open for the backstory comments of the voters the title may not be too precise. And it depends on how diligently the voters post comments - the more comments the more fun

Yes, this does have some similarity to the Aftermath challenge, but there would be more focus on the inclusion of a "person or people". The human interaction with the environment and/or other people in the image would hopefully leave more scope for a range of possible backstories, whereas, for example, the property damage type images from Aftermath tend to point the viewer towards to a specific type of event. I agree that voter participation will be imortant, but higher levels of comments, particularly entertaining ones, are desirable.

im not dispelling the idea, just questioning how this would be different than candid or street other than being inclusive of both? the story element is essential in either of those categories.

Yes, it could include both street and candid, but is not limited to those. As I said in my original post, it could be a manufactured situation and therefore, I guess could even be shot in a studio.

There is a lot of overlap between what can be included within many challenges and even with this I expect somebody to shoehorn in at least one of each of a mountain reflected in a lake, a sunset over a rocky beach, the northern lights and a cat. ;-)
