The results of the 'Aliens' challenge have been recalculated, due to the disqualification of the former 5th place image for failing to provide a valid original within the required timeframe. Congrats to our new honorable mention!

And we have now had to DQ the former winner as well, as for inability to provide a valid original. Congratulations to our newest ribboner and HM!

wow. Gyaban couldn't provide a valid original?

ETA, just read the DQ, i'm guessing the issue is that he created computer models and rendered them himself, thus the invalid EXIF?

That's correct.

if my opinion matters, i'm in favor of the DQ. Slippery slope to be allowing computer generated models in photography.

Let's table that discussion for now, please. I expect to open a thread specifically to discuss that issue within a few days. Meanwhile, THIS particular DQ is strictly on the basis of lack-of-EXIF...

wow, I "got" the blue because Gyaban has been DQ . It feels better to "get" the blue in competition
I think that SC job must be very stressful. It's never fun to get Dq but rules are rules. (I recently got 2 DQ and a week suspension)
I still believe that Gyaban's alien entry was a great piece of art and a hell of a job.

I know the rules, and I am good with it, but it still stinks - left before the challenge was over (i.e had no clue that it would come in this high and my recent entries have all been flops) and as soon as I got signal again and saw that they needed the original I sent a message to say that I would only be home today (now). Seems messages overlapped and while I got one to say that was OK, I had another one to say it was DQed.

Do you advise the council every time you go away "just in case"?

Well done on those who moved up.

That does stink. I hope it will be corrected.

FYI... You can always submit your originals when you submit your entry in cases where you are not going to be around when voting is over. No need to wait for a request.

But it's a roaring pita to write up detailed pp and submit multiple photos for an expert editing challenge... just for the heck of it.

in his case it's a question of valid exif. Would software that can render images ever create valid Exif?

So where would you upload the originals to? On the description section?

If your challenge entry is in the voting stage click on the thumbnail of your entry (the one above your scores - left side of home page). Down at the bottom of your entry page you'll see:

"Note: If you will be away or offline and unable to submit an original during or in the few
days after voting, or simply feel strongly that others will question the validity of your
entry, you may submit your original in case the entry is questioned."

The 'submit your original' is a link.

You can also get there from your portfolio view too I think ... by selecting your challenge entry.

maybe oblige people to enter the original at the same time they enter for the challenge.
I always enter my originals the same time. It's way too stupid to get dq for not submitting on time when requested.

No thanks. I have very slow internet access ... already have to time a slot (with family sharing) for internet related activity. Prefer to only upload originals as needed.

The world has lost its head.

It may never be this sane again.

No, same, not sane. Headless. That's how we used to like it, that's how we want it now, and that's how it should be in the future. Off with their Head! challenge, for reference....

No biggie, we still like your images, and they will probably get more hits now....

It would seem to me that this could (should) be righted. If you sent a note to SC to say that you needed more time, you should still be able to send them your originals, no? Try that and see what happens.

We have removed the DQ on the former 5th-place entry pending review of the original files. A request for an extra day to upload had been in our system but had slipped through the cracks. Since we regularly grant such extensions (we HATE to DQ otherwise-valid images for failure to produce an original), we have done the same thing here. So the front page is looking a little back-and-forthy right now. Sorry for all the drama.

Thank you for this - good thing I don't travel that much, perhaps it is something that I will remember doing when this situation occurs again.

Thank you, that is very kind. Just uploaded my originals and off to bed now - cross fingers all will be OK :-)

"perhaps it is something that I will remember doing when this situation occurs again."

I'm happy about this! It's a wonderful image and this "infraction" didn't seem egregious enough for DQ. Also, it inspired me to email myself my original Golden Hour files "just in case" since we're going away this weekend. :-) Thanks, SC, for doing the right thing! Congrats again, kasaba!
