Me too. But when they discounted it a few years back after Google bought them, they did issue a partial refund.

The sad part is that probably means it's not going to be maintained. Maybe.

What the heck?!?

Or is it just a free 15-day trial of the whole collection? I just checked out the link and did not see that the collection is free. Help, please. I have the collection already - have had for quite some time - but I wanted to spread the word to a couple of other groups.

This is what the website says:

"Starting March 24, 2016, the latest Nik Collection will be freely available to download: Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine. I would think if they say they'll give a full refund then it's not just a trial.

Well I got my NIK in 2015, so is this all retroactive?

Just got it all for free! Thanks, Julie!

"Nik Collection by Google
Shared publicly - 1:11 PM

"Today we’re making the Nik Collection available to everyone, for free.

Photo enthusiasts all over the world use the Nik Collection to get the best out of their images every day. As we continue to focus our long-term investments in building incredible photo editing tools for mobile, including Google Photos and Snapseed, we’ve decided to make the Nik Collection desktop suite available for free, so that now anyone can use it.

The Nik Collection is comprised of seven desktop plug-ins that provide a powerful range of photo editing capabilities -- from filter applications that improve color correction, to retouching and creative effects, to image sharpening that brings out all the hidden details, to the ability to make adjustments to the color and tonality of images.

Starting March 24, 2016, the latest Nik Collection will be freely available to download: Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine. If you purchased the Nik Collection in 2016, you will receive a full refund, which we’ll automatically issue back to you in the coming days.

We’re excited to bring the powerful photo editing tools once only used by professionals to even more people now. "

Yeah, if you just recently purchased it you will be refunded this is not a trial it is perma free!!

'The refund is only for those that purchased it in 2016.... 2015 doesn't count.

I could not afford the upgrade to it earlier on, so now its all updated and upgraded for free, I love the new filters it has, pretty cool and fun stuff! I love it more than on 1 now LOL

welcome for those that are enjoying it!
I know of newbies that could use it and I knew some here could have as well :-))

So I'm wondering if these are upgraded versions of NIK or just what I purchased in 2015. For $150, I might add.

So thrilled to get this. I had HDR Efex Pro on my old computer but couldn't get it to activate on the new one, and for some reason the Nik people couldn't find a record of my account. Then life got complicated and I never tried to sort it out.

Which is a LOT less than what we early adopters paid for it, in bits and pieces, before Google took over. Just be happy everyone gets to play with it now. It wouldn't even EXIST if there hadn't been paying customers...

I have a friend in Canada. Anyone have any idea whether that's a problem?

I have plenty of friends in Canada. I've never seen it as a problem.

I just hope that making it free does not signal the end of Google's commitment to continuing development on the suite of products. Hopefully, there will continue to be periodic updates.

Must be being so cheerful keeps you going. :)

My guess is that it signals just that. Google recently announced that it is retiring Picasa as well.

Google is retiring Picasa? It's just stopped working for me. Has it already taken effect?
03/25/2016 07:11:27 AM · #25
My understanding yes, it is retiring and was supposed to take effect yesterday as well
