I think it is going to be an interesting challege because what everyone posted is with what they want to see in the challenge and you cannot compare one against another except that whatever is submitted would actually meet the challenge that is being ask.

Over all there are some nice shots!

I think that I am going to rank them based on how much I like the challenge idea and how will I think that they executed their idea. And BTW, there are some really nice images in this challenge. However, I don't necessarily like the challenge idea. So I will vote accordingly even though I may like the image of one better than the other. Both the image and the idea will hold weight in my book.

You have rated 46 of 46 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 27 images (57%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.8261.

Found this tough to rate, had to think about the challenge, if it would work as a challenge, if the image fit the challenge and then how much I like the image.

I have decided to break the score up into two parts. The first part will be my take on the challenge suggestion, which I will rate between 0 and 4, 0 being "this is stupid" and 4 being "that's a great idea". Next I will rate the image purely on what I think of it as a photograph, which I will give between 1 and 6, 1 being "yuk" and 6 being" WOW! are you related to Michelangelo?". Finally, I will add the two numbers together and submit that score. I think this will also assist me with commenting on each photo. I can let the photographer know each of the scores I used for the final total.

In the mean time, my score keeps dropping. And no comments. DOH! :-(

I didn't realize it had to be a great idea. I thought it was supposed be way out there/kookoo.

I'm right there with you Wendy, actually referenced you in a couple of my comments as think some of the challenge suggestions would have worked great with some of your squirrel shots. I was OK with kookoo, but guess I thought the challenge needed to be fun regardless of seriousness.

My take on this one, both when shooting and scoring - it's a Free Study with the intention of shooting something that works as a specific Challenge topic. Images that easily fall into any challenge or are everywhere and anywhere in a FS will be looked at with much skepticism and best be exceptional to score well, while those that may not be the type that would score well in a FS but present extremely well with the topic suggested will be looked at more favorably, even if the challenge topic is a little out there. Oh, and topics that require explanation even with an example photo aren't something I'm going to want to stare at a long time.

I haven't looked yet having just gotten back from a trip but if there's a "Squirrels in Repose" suggestion I'm all for it - even if it's not mine. ;)

I didn't think it needed to be an absolutely viable idea for an actual challenge. For me the image and topic need to go hand in glove, even if I could never see shooting for it, and the image should be something that we don't see week after week (i.e. I'm hoping we don't see a lot of landscape and water topics).

That was my take on it as well. We're obviously in a minority on this one :-(

I think it's a shame that we're talking about topic description during voting ... I just want to enjoy the entries with my own open interpretation, as usual.

I totally HATE the score I got from WonderDude.

BUT... I totally LOVE it that he's giving a comment to say... in detail... how he's come about his score.

Leave him alone.

He's voting and commenting.

To me he is creative with the way he suggested on commenting :D

People complain about people not voting.

People complain about people not commenting.

And... people are complaining.

Golly gee willickers, peeps!

WHAT will make us happy?

It never ceases to amaze me how scores always plummet Saturday night into Sunday morning.

As for the commenting, while I do, in all honesty, appreciate the effort it takes to comment like that, knowing what two numbers were used to add up to another number provides me no more incite into the perception of my photography than when someone simply echoes their score on the comment line. I'd rather know why you thought what you thought of my photo (and in this case the accompanying challenge topic) regardless of what you gave it. THAT would make me happy. What WD is doing is not voting and commenting, it's just voting openly. I'm not faulting him for it - it's a brave thing to do. But it's not commenting - at least not as it appears in my photo.

There are words under your picture, it's a comnent. If you want a critique, post the image after the challenge is over. Most people don't want an honest critique...which is just one persons opinion.

...and thanks WonderDude for your comment, much appreciated.

If the words formed sentences then I might agree with you. This is an explanation.

In my world, a "comment", by definition, is brief. "Liked" is a comment. "I particularly like this because the way the several leading lines draw me to the singularity on the horizon shows a consciousness, an awareness, of the impending end of the world as we know it." is a critique.

Hmmm... Saturday night. Perhaps an inverse correlation between blood alcohol content and average score given?

my score's up and down, currently in violin territory but I've gotten 7 comments
