I've just been approached by Leica asking if they can include the following picture on their Instagram and Facebook pages for World Children's Day on June 3rd:

I said yes ;-)

Pleasing!

I am not surprised they want to use it. It is an utterly superb photo.

Well done. That must be quite a compliment to get asked something like that.

Congratulations! Though I'm little disturbed about this being an all-Paul thread ... ;-)

Congratulations...though for the price of Leica's a little royalty payment would seem affordable and nice!

Way cool!!

I bet you let them use it with no payment.. Nothing will come of it for you personally other than a perfunctory copyright credit that no standard viewer with give a rats arse about. Well done. Nice photo btw.

It fared pretty well on DPC too. Always nice to hear member success stories. Congratulations!

Won't you need to get a Model Release from the kid's legal guardian, if they could be found? I'd be pretty ticked if I saw a candid photo of my kid being used without my knowledge or consent, even if it was a photo overflowing with as much awesomeness as this one :D

My understanding is that you wouldn't need an MR, because although it's being used as a promotional tool, it doesn't seem to be for commercial usage. Therein lies the rub.

i don't believe it is a requirement to have a model release. It was a public place. Copyright is clearly with me and as for privacy rights, they don't exist in a public place. It's no different from it being on DPC really.

Of course no payment. I'm not bothered about that sort of thing for my work, I don't even like to use watermarks. I have no social media accounts either. I put my work here and on a few other photography sites but I'm not at all interested in putting me as a photographer 'out there'. I like my images to be seen and I enjoy knowing that some people like them, but that's it.

I did once get paid for the use of an image on a website - they offered at the initial approach.

I know others, more commercially aware, will think differently and of course that's legitimate. You're a Pro Mark (I believe), you'll have a very different stake in your images and your brand. I have very little.

Ultimate high, many congrats

Really great shot, Paul, the kid almost jumps out of the image. If this was a GuruShots contest you could have used that image in last Shallow DoF challenge and it easily would have won!

And kudos for your attitude towards payment. Not everything in life is about money, i.e. as long as they ask you nicely.
