I hadn't noticed the special rules for the Distortion challenge, so I thought I'd post it here in case other people missed it.

Make sure you check it out.

i read and re-read the special flag several times... it is not absolutely clear, but my interpretation is

take a single capture and make your final image from it, or pieces of it, copied as many times as you would like

e.g., you cannot include any elements from any other captures into the final image, as would usually be allowed under Extended Editing.

agree? thoughts?

Mefnj, that's correct. What part was not clear? I'm curious...

just thought maybe if it said something like " you may use, resize, duplicate, or remove any elements in a single capture as many times as you like " it may have been clearer to me...

Gotcha. From our perspective, listing what you CAN do in a situation like this is dangerous, because by implication whatever's NOT listed is verboten, and more creative folks than we SC often do stuff we'd never thought of. This being Extended editing, pretty much anything is OK if you use a single source image to accomplish it, and that's what we tried to convey.

I see an awful lot of cut-and-paste but not much actual distortion.

Regardless of my special avatar, I confess to have missed it before putting some unnecessary time in :(
Kinda the way I miss things that are highlighted on job tickets at work.
It's like a reverse super-power.

Deliberately, by means of digital editing, distort your entry in a manner that enhances the impact of the submission.

Wouldn't any change in the way the image is perceived/seen be a distortion of some type? From the Oxford dictionary...

Noun
1. the action of distorting or the state of being distorted:
"the virus causes distortion of the leaves" ·
- a distorted form or part:
"a distortion in the eye's shape or structure"

2. the action of giving a misleading account or impression:
"we're tired of the media's continuing distortion of our issues"

Let's go to the root, "distort"...

Verb
1. pull or twist out of shape:
"a grimace distorted her fine mouth"
synonyms: twisted · warped · contorted · buckled · deformed

2. give a misleading or false account or impression of:
"many factors can distort the results"
synonyms: misrepresented · perverted · twisted · falsified

Lots of wiggle room in there.

My problem is that a lot of yellow flags are for things that are either obvious or stated in the challenge description. Like the 5 things type of challenge or challenges where the date range is different. So I saw it, but figured it wasn't anything I didn't already know through the description. But then later in the week I started thinking: "huh? There's nothing weird in the description. So I looked. :)

Hopefully I've learned my lesson and will check all yellow flags in the future!

The difference is that if it is marked with a flag it is a RULE and not following it subjects the photo to DQ; something in the description is NOT a "rule" and failure to follow it will/may only affect the votes you get.

I started to read this but fell asleep. I get your gist, but my gist is better.
