It's also interesting to note that when J. Paul Getty died and left a MASSIVE fortune to the Getty Museum, with which they expanded to the Santa Monica building by Richard Meier's office, at that point they became a perniciously corrupting influence on the art world, because they had the endowment/buying power to drive prices up by outbidding all other institutions on anything they wanted to acquire. Wide-spread resentment ensued, and I don't think it's gotten any better.

In many ways Mark Getty, co-founder of Getty Images (using inherited money) is following his father's business model, and it ain't pretty at all.

Well, hopefully these two massive lawsuits will knock some sense into them.

If you click on the link in the article and read the suit filed by Carol M. Highsmith, she only found out that Getty were using her images when Getty sent her a letter accusing her of infringing the copyright of her own photograph.
