I'm running the "art jury" for the upcoming Art of 2016 challenge.

In the spirit of populism, I offer a position to anyone who's interested. Just volunteer on this thread.

Here is what I will require of you:

1. Your own entry will not be eligible for any honors.
2. You cannot merely nominate photos. You must write at least a *paragraph* on any photo you wish to honor.

If you're interested in both of the above, you're probably perfect for my jury. I'm also doing some outreach for guest judges... but any DPCer is welcome.

If you're a photographer who gets lots of favorites or alternative ribbons but doesn't feel comfortable writing about art or photography, then contribute by entering the challenge. Give us images to write about.

Hey, I need some art in my life right about now. I'm in, if you'll have the likes of me ;)

For the record, this will be an "Art of 2016" challenge, and any digital image you shot in calendar year 2016 will be eligible, as long as it has not previously been entered in a DPC challenge. The editing set will be "Standard". It will be an Open challenge this year; paid and registered members may enter.

I'm up for it if you will have a freak that has lost his mind on the panel......

Count me in, I can squeeze out a few paragraphs. Avert your eyes!

I can offer my services as an appreciator with my own particular taste, although I am not an art critic. Nor do I know all that much about art. But if you run short, I'm your gal. I'm short. Always have been, and getting shorter every year.

Oh, what the {hockeysticks], if Melethia is brave enough to volunteer, I'll tag along.
With about the same credentials as she enumerates.
Still, I have looked at one [hockeystick] amount of pictures over my past DPC years.

[hockeystick]=euphemism.

I will not be entering as my camera is not currently functional, but would love to judge. Actually camera has not been functioning for quite some time.

How long a paragraph ;)

........The length it takes to unravel a point, to straighten it out so every detail can be seen, to explain and not merely declare. The distance between opinion and informed opinion, blather and grammar. Something beyond an epigram, with the bones of an essay. Long enough for a beginning, a middle, and an end. Longer than a sigh, but shorter than mourning. The length of at least one cookie with a sip of tea in the middle. Long enough for all the recommended articles, definite and indefinite. Room enough for examples, samples, and other tasty delights. High enough to see into the next town, wide enough to skip a stone, deep enough to drown. Mark out enough territory so you can properly inhabit it, and everyone knows it's yours. Long enough to be a demonstration of love and not merely a claim. So long that your list runs out and you actually have to grapple with some ideas. The paragraph is a generous unit of thought, and needs time enough for meditation. Think of it as a journey into perception, and your commitment to being a fearless tour guide into a photo and your mind. 200 words, in other words.

That's what I was hoping you'd say! And look -- a paragraph of perfect length.

welcomed with trepidation, this invite to transcend my blather.

Good God, that was perfect! We cannot compete with that!! (I kinda wish my mom, the one time English teacher, were still alive so I could call her and read it aloud to her.)

God bless the poets. I struggle to muster much more than, "I like this one. It is pretty," so I guess I am out. However, I always look forward to reading what the Jury has to say. Thanks to all that have volunteered.

Think of it as a journey into perception said the poet among other delightful susurrations

Having done this a few times (and enjoying it much) I wish the volunteers a lovely time and look forward for informed opinions and meaty excursuses

You're a tour-de-force all on your own, Don :-) And Mark, I think one SC on the jury is probably enough, LOL.
