I am putting image size on Photoshop and 1200 as the longest, but still when I preview them they seem relatively small co.psred to other entries I see. Can someone help me?

Are you previewing in photoshop or on DPC after you have uploaded?

Check what you have in the DPI (dots per inch) (resolution)box. Change it to a lower number--I'm still using 72.

BTW what is the resolution for a typical monitor/screen these days?

There are different parts of photoshop that can change size. For DPC, using "save for web" can be a reliable way to prepare a submission. Make longest edge 1200 then adjust quality slider to get kilobytes just below 700. If you were using another method, consider trying save for web.

I thought that "save for the web" was the only way to post!
Anyway, sometimes 1200 on the vertical is too much for a poster size shot on this site so I use anything between 800-1000

If you are setting the longest size to 1200px, that should do what you want no matter whether you use Save for Web or another path. Bear in mind that Save for Web is still available, but it's a vestige in Ps CC.
I've not used Save for Web in years.
Please link us to an image that you feel looks small on DPC, despite being resized to 1200 and looking correct in Ps.

I am ignorant as you can see. So, if you reduce in PS for 1200 px and resolution 72 jpeg that's all you need to post?

Nope - if you get the size and resolution correct then choose to save as JPG you should get a quality dialogue box that lets you see the file size - the quality ranges from 1 to 12 off the top of my head.

If the size is more than 700KB, reduce the quality until it is less than or equal to 700KB.

I believe some browsers/operating systems will resize the display on DPC to make the image fit. if you are setting the dimension to 1200 pixels the resolution doesn't matter unless you are going to physically print the image.

Ignore the DPI, it makes no difference. Pixel dimension and quality setting are all you need. If the resulting file is over 700k, reduce the quality setting a little and re-save. I think that what is making the image look smaller on DPC is the auto-scaling of images. I believe this is a feature of the DPC interface scaling the image to fit your screen resolution without scrolling.
