So I just upgraded my iPhone to a 7 Plus which has the capability of capturing Raw data. Alas, the format that it records is DNG, which is verboten here, correct? Or is it that DNG is OK provided that all the internal timestamps sync up?

The reason I ask is because it's possible to capture both DNG & JPEG and in these cases would it be possible, and ethical, to submit the original JPEG as validation even if it was the raw image processed? I'm guessing that if the question went unasked then no one would ever know, but I like to float these things out there.

The DNG should be acceptable as a proof file, but with all the caveats attached to JPEGs. Still, you get the more data-rich RAW format, which is a benefit. My Samsung S7 also records RAW as DNG, seems to be standard practice on mobile devices.

Right, but I know that converting to DNG on import is an issue so I wanted to make sure it was the conversion that was a factor and not the format itself.

Just curious why you didn't opt to wait for the iPhone8?

DNG is always an acceptable image format for cameras that SHOOT in that format. Leica, for example, produce RAW in DNG files. You're good to go, Jake :-)

From me? Yes, but nothing to share. I'm still a DSLR guy and it leaves the house with me whenever I go out, but it's nice to know that I can get something other than JPEG out of my phone now.
