Critique This (open to a better title)
As much a challenge for voters as it is for photographers, this is basically a free study where voters are highly encouraged to give a complete and HONEST critique of the entries. If you cast a high vote, summarily explain why. If you cast a low vote, explain what you think may be done to improve it. Voters' comments should be civil, but honest. Entrants should feel obligated to vote on, and critique all entries.

Standard Editing.

Partly inspired by this thread. Obviously there is no way to enforce the critique part, but it should be encouraged in the forum, along with participants posting their "You have cast x votes (100%)... and commented on x (100%)" stats (with or without their average score given).

Not a bad idea but as a longtime member of the CC, I find that writing a critique takes a good amount of time and thought as I am looking at the image in depth for what is good and what needs improving. Expecting people to comment with a critique could be a bit daunting.

Interesting idea...

Good idea. Maybe if voters are encouraged to explain just their five highest and five lowest scores? Anyone can manage 10 sentences, and that makes it a bit less daunting. "Acey-deucey"?

I'd encourage something less of a critique club critique - just a summary. And highest/lowest scores might be ok, but if there was a minimum recommended, I would say lowest and middle (votes of 1 - 5) would be more valuable, IMO. In fact, the mediocre scores are arguably the hardest to get voters to explain.

I agree that commenting on the middle-scoring images might be "most valuable" ... trying to opine what would (for that commenter) elevate the "meh" to "good" ...

In any case I think a sentence answering one question and filling in one blank (see below) suffices in most cases ... I think a "critique" is mostly repeating this several times, addressing more than one aspect or in greater detail.

Sounds fun and educational.

I'm in.

I like it, with one caveat: no complaining about the comments.

That should be a given for all challenges.

I agree.

A comment received is someone's time that they have given to tell me something... that they will never get back.

I want to hear it... even if I don't agree with it... someone took their time to tell it to me.

I will listen, appreciate it... and either agree with it... or not.

But, I will appreciate it.
