How about a minimal editing challenge where the entry should demonstrate some interesting lens effects... this could cover specialist lenses such as Lensbaby as well as techniques such as free lensing... the aim of the challenge and minimal editing rule set would be to see what can be achieved straight from camera...

e.g.

Free Lensing
shooting through objects/vaseline
specialist lenses (such as Lensbaby)

+1. I HATE minimal, but this is a challenge I could tolerate and even endorse in minimal.

Of COURSE you do! Is this the one from Elbonia?

I like the topic and the minimality of it. Relatively recently we ran a challenge that's sort of in this neighborhood; is it too soon to run another?

I still have the mud on my legs to prove it...

I'm thinking not. I think it is sufficiently different.

NO! My first and last brown ribbon. Albeit well deserved.

Lens EFFECTS is better, IMO. Zoom blur, spin blur, LensBaby, Vaseline (on the lens. ...or whatever), etc. Lots more room for creativity than just filtering.

Indeed... I can't seem to find my reversal ring. :(

You sure can. Minimal rules allow pretty much any hardware. You could mount a coke bottle bottom to your camera ans hoot through that, perfectly fine as long as you adhere to the Minimal Rules as far as capture and processing. Remember that you have to capture in JPEG for minimal, no RAW capture and conversion. And because you're using JPEG, be careful to keep a completely un-processed original.

Had never heard of freelensing before so looked it up and tried it. Cool effects but it seems that if you aren't willing to tear down a perfectly good (if cheap) prime lens, then you really have a hard time getting the desired effect.

Should be able to do it without tearing a lens down. Biggest challenge is aperture control. On Canon, we can use the trick of holding DOF preview while removing the lens. On older Nikkors, just set the aperture manually using the ring. On G Nikkors, don't know if there is an easy solution.

I've been using my 50mm, with Live View and manual focus, but still pretty tough to do. May try and play with it today where there is lots of foot traffic.
