There are already two entries?????

Well, the challenge IS open for submissions ... I expect these early entries to lack "detail" and probably won't score very well ... :-)

I heard tell that some enter a "placeholder" image, which is supposed to guarantee a first-page showing during voting, which is supposed to improve your score. Or so I heard.

Too bad the image order is randomized for each voter, undermining that strategy ...

Thank you much for clearing that up.

I live in Nashville. I grabbed my camera at the last minute on the way to work thinking I'd try a few shots, no expectations. Didn't even grab the tripod...
I sat at the top of a 50' high roof with a great view of the sky and waited. It was an amazing event (I say sheepishly as I had poo-poo'd it for weeks as a silly thing and not to get excited about).
I shot hand held and clicked away at the sun as the moon moved into position. I took more than 100 clicks. I'm pretty sure I killed my sensor in the process. But I got a couple of really nice pics once the moon was fully in place.

Unfortunately I can't enter them in the challenge. My battery had gone down for a while and the EXIF date somehow rolled back a month. So my original image shows that I took the shot on July 22.

Bummer.

Not sure if it's appropriate or even allowed to post them here, so they are on my profile page if anyone is interested. They're a little noisy, but I like them.

I put my iPhone on a tripod and took a short video of what I thought was past the time of the Eclipse but when I looked at it, I actually got the eclipse in the little video. Is there any way I can isolate that frame and keep the EXIF? If not, I'll try to share with you.

Supposedly the 10 Best shots of the 2017 eclipse. Some are amazing!

Nope, you can't get a valid EXIF out of a video...

a few of those would pass validation under Standard Editing rules, the others, not so much.

somewhere in this mess is a first-in-a-while for me, we had a small eclipse party at work, and though we didn't get near what the Midwest got, we had fun and nobody went blind.
hope everybody who entered this had fun shooting and took safety first :)

not a lot different from where I'm sitting Georges, though I'm curious to see what you managed from Taiwan, I'm sure I won't be disappointed :D

Pretty happy with where this is going. Let's see which direction it takes...

Haven't voted yet but I looked through them quickly and was very pleased with them. Was really cool to see the different looks each one of these had.

It's truly amazing that literally, a circle blocking a circle could produce so many different images.

I was working out on my deck and idle thoughts occupied my mind. Suddenly it came to me. The #1 picture on the 10 images of the eclipse linked above (the plane with contrails) is fake. I'm nearly certain. Can anybody deduce why?

The plane is not in silhouette?

Crossed my mind, but no. I think perhaps earthshine could be responsible for that.

Two separate images in composite. The shutter speed/aperture combination to freeze the plane's motion, yet providing a good exposure of the underside of the jet and contrail would be substantially different than the solar filtered, stopped down shutter speed/aperture combination for the crescent sun.

With my personal experience with Solar filter I would agree with what Richard said.

that makes absolute sense Richard.

I saw the pic and was wondering how they had managed to expose the plane and still have the sun not just a white blur as well, figured it had to be composite. didn't spend much time on logistics, but there is no way that the guy's statement of "I just got lucky" and got THAT picture lines up as perfectly as his "let's make a sword from the eclipse, a plane and contrails" do...
