I hope this link will work: Nikon D850

I thought my lust for new gear had stopped, until I saw the advert for this in my inbox the other day :) Even trading in the D800 and Sony gear I don't think I can quite manage it even though I'd like to. It comes with a hefty price tag, all the more hefty due to the weak pound.

the same day my d300 breaks? Is it a sign?

Oh yes. Yes it is;-)

My nephew and I were discussing the impending release on a hike in the Cascades Wednesday. I am guessing that the backside-illuminated sensor is going to give it at least a half-stop advantage in noise, without any other improvements. Oughta be a high performer.

Well, hope everyone's ready to upgrade their software so it can handle those massive files that D850 will generate. And wondering about the noise performance, Nikon's biggest bugaboo.

Stay with A7SII. D850 seems to be a great camera, but most of those features are in the Sony :)

Yeah, I know :) Not really thinking of changing. I like my Sony far too much and honestly speaking, for the amount of photography I do these days, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the D800!

Well my 70D is getting old (4years). something around 60.000 shutter counts
Still looking and working as the first day I got it.... but sooner or later I'll have to replace it.
I used Nikon before I switched to Canon. Not sure I want to invest in new lenses if buying a Nikon again
but Canon has not much to offer to replace the 70D.
I had very bad experience with Sony before and told myself that NEVER ever I would buy something of them again.

I still have my Nikon gear even though I've mainly been using the Fuji's for a bit over 2 years.

This looks like a great camera, as does the D750 and D7500, but I don't want to go back to a pentaprism viewfinder (I have the D600 and D7100). I wish Nikon would finally put out a competitive APS-C or FF mirrorless with the Nikon mount so I can use my Nikon lenses. One of the main reasons I've saved them. But I'm losing hope.

Besides being a SLR, one thing I'm not impressed with in the new camera is the "central" array of focus points. Also, I think a fully articulating LCD is much better than a tilting one, especially for shooting in portrait mode.

Come on Nikon, you're going to become irrelevant when no one wants a dSLR anymore.

I had bad experiences with Sony as far as their completely apathetic customer service. Never again for them

Those image files are just stupid large. I'm not happy about the 45MB D810 image files.

I don't see me with a D850.

If I had the money I probably would but *only* if the Medium RAW option of 24MP is as good as the 45MB. I quite like the idea of using the full resolution for certain things. I certainly don't need 45MB when i'm shooting weddings but the option to switch to it just for large group photos or couple portraits would be great.

It's certainly one hell of a good looking camera. The amazing auto-focus from the D5and D500 in a decently built Full Frame body (like the D500) looks great, although, as Neil points out they are all centralised (unlike the D500)

Really, with the right lenses the apsc D500 is easily enough for what I do for weddings, and clients will certainly not notice any difference, but what I would like is the D5 sensor in the D500 body will the full screen auto-focus points and system. That would be a perfect camera for me. Although, i guess that is almost the D5 which is a bit big to be lugging two around all day.
