Maybe you can line up all the climate change-denying state legislators and have them all talk at once -- with that much hot air production you might have a chance of diverting it toward D.C. ... :-(

Are you trying to make this political? Lol.

Smh... Maybe this is why people don't want to come back to the forums... -_-

I have never lived outside the Midwest for any length of time. I have sat in basements during tornado warnings, but they are general no more than an hour or two. I can't imagine waiting out the hours of pounding as a hurricane steamrolls by. Good luck, Marko. You and your pup stay safe and on high ground. The same goes for the rest of you in Irma's wide swath.

Sorry ... I actually believe in government, but that which prioritizes people over corporations and "earned income" (the kind people who work have) and "unearned income" (the kind people who manipulate money have) ... I find it incredibly sad that there are members of Congress who won't approve of Harvey aid unless the money is cut from some other social program ...

I hope you all stay safe and avoid needing any of that government aid!

ETA: Maybe this is a more positive one ...

i don't know what's worse, tornadoes or hurricanes. tornadoes are instantaneous but extremely violent. hurricanes, though, trudge along like an army of drunken bullies: you just don't know where they're going to go or what they're going to do.

your best bet is to be in a hurricane-ready building during the storm, then hopefully to be in a flood-free place afterward.

put your critical electronics in tightly sealed plastic bags with desiccant, especially your phone. have travel bags ready for both you and your pets (hopefully you already have a crate).

Basic Preparedness Tips

Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the local hurricane evacuation route(s) to take and have a plan for where you can stay. Contact your local emergency management agency for more information.

Put together a go-bag: disaster supply kit, including a flashlight, batteries, cash, first aid supplies, medications, and copies of your critical information if you need to evacuate

If you are not in an area that is advised to evacuate and you decide to stay in your home, plan for adequate supplies in case you lose power and water for several days and you are not able to leave due to flooding or blocked roads.

Make a family emergency communication plan.
Many communities have text or email alerting systems for emergency notifications. To find out what alerts are available in your area, search the Internet with your town, city, or county name and the word “alerts.”

if you do leave the area and need a place to stay, search here.

hoping for the best, planning for the worst...

be strong, marko

I'm all prepped. Or as much as I can be. Water, gas, cash, lights/candles, food... Parents have a grill with propane, brother came in from central FL to help around my parent's house afterward for clean up, my dog has plenty of food... And yes, my camera is completely charged.

Last night at 3:00 am I decided to go out and try and get gas. I had to get gas for both my car and my gf's car... The first trip was my car... Right around a 15-minute wait to get gas... No biggie... Second trip (her car) I went to the same exact place as before and waited about 10 minutes... Only to find that the gas station ran out of gas... Luckily I saw another gas station that had a tanker filling the place up but the line was pretty f***ing long (this point its about 4:00 am). Waited in line for about 50 minutes.

I woke up this morning to go to work, the same gas station I went to with the second car had a line I'd say quadrupled in length from when I was there. Happy I did it when I did...

Friday night and *maybe* Saturday morning I may run over to the beach to watch the waves for a bit depending on the weather.

For those who are worried, don't be... Us Floridians know a thing or two about hurricane preparedness. Not only that but, people seem to want to lend a helping hand the following 48-72 hours after the storm. I for one will be clearing as much of the roads as I can get to shortly after the storm passes to make sure emergency vehicles can get through. A friend of mine has a chainsaw with plenty of gas ready to go. We have a few elderly neighbours where we are staying so those will be the first places I check to make sure everyone is okay. Only thing I'm worried about getting damaged is my car since we don't have a garage to put it in. Hopefully, my windows keep in tact... I don't want rain getting inside my car.

Thanks for the link! We just moved from AZ to FL and have been quickly learning the prep for hurricanes. Stay safe everyone.

I've been following that link for awhile. One of my favorite weather apps for ipad and hurricane season, aka Windytv.

Looks like this will be one hell of a ride for all of the Florida folks.

Stay safe everyone.

We have prepared as much as we can at this point, just waiting to see where it goes after Miami. We live in north central Florida just south of Jacksonville and expecting a lot of wind and rain. At least we don't have to deal with storm surge, etc. Our area is already saturated with rain and we have large oak trees all around us. One of our biggest worries is having one of those fall on our house. We are prepared to be without power for a while. Stay safe everyone.

Good luck to all in the area...keep us posted on your safety...and stay safe!

You'll be getting the "dirty" side of the storm if it stays west like they say... Be aware at all times if there's a tornado warning near you. Bathroom is the safest area in case of a tornado.

Cory, I saw your live feed today. I'll be watching that when the storm gets going for as long as my power is good.

I'll try to post random photos of the storm here as soon as I can get internet back. Should be a fun time. ;)

Better plan on a marathon session ... for only the second time in the past hundred years there are three (two more) Category 4 storms in the Atlantic, on their way ... :-(

Well we're as ready as we're gonna get...did my final cleaning (Rick said everything was quite sparkly...should make it easier to find!!! Lol)

Got my final shower for awhile (ugh) as we'll lose power then water. Everything is cleaned, sorted, rearranged, tubs filled....water buckets ready. The hardest thing for me will be no A/C for 1 week or more...

We live in a higher area than most. Our garage may flood but outrage house is built up 3 cinder blocks. Water hasn't ever gotten even close to that...if I lived on the coast/lakefront - I'd be gone!!

Send good vibes, say a little prayer for us. I'll ck in when I can.

It must be very confusing whether to stay or go. My brother-in-law (in Seffner) rec'd evacuation orders earlier. My mother-in-law (in Clearwater) has not.

Ok. Found out that it's based on flood surge predictions.

Way too much going on in Florida.
We haven't heard from Waddy Thompson ( melonmusketeer).
He may have headed for safer territory...let's hope so.
I think he's located down in the Keys.
