My Samsung Note 4 is beginning to fade. Time for a new Smartphone. My Choices are the Samsung S8, 8 plus, or Note 8 or an iPhone 7 or soon to be released 8. I have both a PC and Mac but have moved more to the Mac due to the photography. Does it make sense to also move to an Apple I phone due to greater compatibility?
I use the smartphone for email, phone, text, photography, web searching, you tube, reading the news etc. calendar, contacts. I do not play games on the smartphone.
Thanks for the input.

I totally LOVE my iPhone 7.

The camera is... AMAZING...

But... I haven't tried the competition.

I love my iPhone 7+. Reliable. Great and versatile camera. No family history of exploding in your pocket. I don't know about the next iPhone to be released on 9/12. Rumored to have a virtual home button.

It may well make sense for you to move to the iPhone if you are moving more toward Mac for your computing. Bottom line, they are great devices. So are the latest android devices, although frankly if I were making a recommendation today for a new android phone, I'd suggest looking at the last generation Samsung S7. It's very robust, and at this pint should be significantly less expensive than the S8.

At least you're admitting it.

I've had some wine... but I'm not telling that.

Yes, that was a cost, no object question, but your point is well taken.

Samsung S7 camera is really great. Wipes the floor against my iPhone 6s. Not tried the iPhone 7 yet but suspect it will have a great camera too. I prefer using the iPhone though for everyday use hence I seem to have both at moment. Useful for testing apps that I develop tho

After 10 days with no internet connection I'm thinking it's finally time to upgrade my cellphone to something that I can use for basic app use where necessary. I didn't even think about using it for connection to my camera but that's probably something I should consider too. I don't want anything too expensive, just a fairly basic Samsung that can do a bit more than the one I'm using now, but I'll be watching this thread for ideas.

Canon Camera Connect app works really well with both my 70D and 6D. I had equally good results with IOS app but can't recall name of that one

Samsung S8+, which I have recently gotten, is a terrific machine. The S8 is the same machine with a slightly smaller form factor. Cameras are the same on them, and they are absolutely outstanding, as is the display screen. I don't know what Apple has planned with the new phone, but this phone is defintely a better photography tool than the iPhone 7... Current Android is a very robust operating system. It's a great package.

The Google Pixel has a great camera and FREE unlimited cloud space.

I stood in the same spot as 2 co-workers one has the S8 Samsung the other had the IPhone 7 we each took the same picture. The google pixel was MUCH better than both the other phones.

If you already have an android phone you'll have no problem with the Pixel.

I have the S8 and I am extremely pleased. I moved from S7 which was also great. The phone is my main camera nowadays.

S8 is a gorgeous (design wise) phone. Camera is on par with S7 + couple of extras (4K stabilised video) but not in terms of IQ.
S8 is modern, has a lot of screen in a small format, is future proof and has 64Gb (S7 was only 32). Curved screen is beautiful but not necessary. I like outdoors and is harder (yet possible) to protect the screen from drops etc. IS also waterproof (but so is the iPhone now)

I read about but not yet seen the Note 8. Its has an extra camera so it can only be better, + the note things like stylus, larger screen.

My thoughts: if you are a Samsung / Android user and budget is not an issue got for Note 8, S8 / S8+. There are things on Android that I prefer: dual SIM card, OTG, availability and possibility to install apps without Google Play (iTunes for iPhones), customisations etc.

If you like Apple (and budget is not an issue, no availability yet etc) got for the yet to be released new iPhone (8 or what ever).

T

Cheers.

Thanks. I tried to download it onto my kindle but that doesn't work. I'll definitely have to get a new phone.
