Richard, thank you for updating your experiences with NIK on your Apple computer. I’m in the process of making a final decision about what system to use in future: Microsoft or Apple. My heart goes out to Apple, but when it is clear NIK is not going to work under the newest IOS, it might change my mind and make me choose a Windows machine.

I hope other members with good or bad experiences re this matter will post in this thread as well.

Do you believe it will be any different with Windows machines, since it is Google who are no longer updating the NIK collection in the future? I would think the situation would be the same whichever operating system is used

If these function as Photoshop plug-ins, then the other question is whether Adobe changes its architecture for handling those. In the past they were pretty good about maintaining backward-compatibility, but I don't know how it is with the CC versions.

I know one day it will stop working. But on this moment it works fine with Windows 10 and my Adobe software. Therefore it can be an important reason to stick with Windows (but only when I know for sure it isn’t working on Apple systems)

That’s an important issue as well. For me this is exactly the reason why I don’t want the CC versions of Adobe, you never know what happens after one of the regular updates. I’d rather stick to Photoshop Elements and Lightroom versions for a couple of years before changing to a newer version.

I just had a try on topaz (trial). Seems ok but I got so used with Nik that i'm really biased...

My main computer is a WIn10 asus laptop and so far Nik runs smooth and well with the latest Adobe PS&LR combo.

I also tired just for fun to see how long it would take to achieve same results with just PS PP and it's tough. Not to mention that it's hard to match the effects

I get the frustrations of those who can't use it anymore.

FYI I am running Photoshop CC with the full set of Nik plugins and the full set of Topaz plugins with no issues.
I also have Photoshop CC 2015 with the full set of Nik plugins and the full set of Topaz plugins with no issues.

Windows 10

However Photoshop CC 2017 not playing nicely and only a few plugins from each appear to be working for me.

@MariucaYesterday I visited my brother-in-law and I worked on his MacBook with High Sierra installed. He has Lightroom 5.7 and on my request he downloaded and installed NIK Collection and it worked fine (only the first time we tried to open Efex Color the program closed because of an error, but afterwards no problems.)

So maybe it’s the combination of the newest Mac OS and your older Photoshop version that’s causing the problems with NIK?

Thank you so much Kees. I appreciata a lot you effort to help me out of this electronic maze.
I am using so far the previous system, Yosemite, with Nik with Ps4.
In the near future I'll try to sort out High Sierra and its implications, but I left it sleep now because it was not woking faster for some obscure reason.

It appears that DxO has bought the NIK collection from Google, so we should finally see updates start happening again... though it probably won't remain free.

Interesting news. I wonder if they will keep it going or just assimilate it into their own pre-existing software? I know they mention a 2018 version, but it seems unlikely they will develop two similar products in the future. In any case, it means we can all breathe again :)
Thanks for sharing

I loved the NIK collection enough to buy it, then it became free, which is great. Because I do not partake in a lot of photography these days I left the Adobe lot and put my money into PaintShop pro 2018 Ultimate edition as they gave me a large discount. Nik plugins work just fine with that.

I can see DxO charging for future releases.

Lightroom upgrade removes the executable files, but leaves any folders with your content (presets, etc)
