Don't know how many are familiar with this new free software from Adobe - spark.adobe.com
I loved it when I saw a presentation from Julianne Kost so specifically went to the Kenilworth Show knowing I would be putting images together for a presentation.
You shoot differently depending on what the images are for.
If I went there just to shoot for competition most of these images would not exist but for this type of blog presentation a documentary style of shooting allows for more photo opportunities.
Enjoy ... and let me know what you think of the presentation (appreciated!!). :)

Wow. Some excellent images. I was unaware of what Spark was -- thanks for posting.

Really surprised at the lack of interested in this post.
Had thought there would be some questions about using the software etc but apart from a comment from Mark ... nothing.
Not even feedback on my presentation from my DPC community
Feeling rather disappointed at the moment.

Hi Maria, didnt realise this software exsisted, I though the presentation excellent
and really enjoyed the rodeo action shots, well caught, will have to have a further
look.
I have been to a Julianne Kost presentation before, she is really inspiring.

First, really did enjoy the rodeo shots... I also was unaware of Spark. After doing a little reading, seems like a cool way to present content in something more than a basic gallery. The free version does incorporate the Spark branding, but, well, it is free. Will be interesting to see if the subscription model takes off with this software.

If you have Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC paid subscription you can put on your own branding

This is a fabulous presentation. Not only is it excellent photography,
but the way it is cataloged and presented is outstanding.
Many thanks for posting this.

So ... has anyone had a go and made a presentation.

Link them here, would love to have a look

Just came across this thread. I have recently posted a Spark presentation here on DPC in the November Photo Essay thread. I originally created it as an expansion of a print book I created with LR and Blurb this August.

Spark works especially well for my project, "Leaving Los Angeles," which chronicles a 4-hour train ride going north from L.A.'s Union Station to Santa Barbara. You can see it here.

I would also highly recommend that anyone reading this thread consider taking a gander over here, at 8 (so far) DPC members' posted photo essays for November 2017. Some have links to online versions, others are simply a series of photos in a DPC portfolio. All of them are fascinating versions of photographic story-telling. You're missing some great stuff if you miss it.

BTW - I found Spark to be intuitive at the basic level, but there was a bit of a learning curve to get some of the logic burned in. For example, to create the windows that show a double-page landscape spread, I had to create images that combined two photos as one uploaded file. This is not always the case if you're content with the default page/window layouts.

That was excellent Bill. Love the images all being black and white. Favourite image was the shutters with the lamp.
Thanks for linking that.

Beautiful gallery, Maria. Curious as to your comment that if you were shooting for a competition the gallery wouldn't exist. What do you mean?

Great work -- I've ridden that line (on the Coast Starlight) and I agree it's a great way to travel. The rail line the rest of the way up the coast (to Seattle) is one of the most beautiful in the country if not the world. I've taken lots of pictures from the train, which affords views unobtainable otherwise, and are transient and require anticipation and timing.

I find the layout and navigation a little funny, but I'm going to check out Spark ...

With no where to display lots of images in this fashion i simply wouldn't taken them. I would just look for images that I could use on DPC or at my local Camera Club for subjects that were coming or something amazing I would keep for a book or maybe hang on a wall if it was that good. So I wouldn't have shot all those images of the sellers or the little animals or the events happening in the pavilion. They would just have been deleted when I returned home as I would have no use for the images and I would just cull back to images that really interested me or could be used in the future. 300 images might become 20 etc. But now with 'spark' this has totally changed the way I shoot. If I go on an outing I will shoot documentary style and look for framers and fillers as well. I can now come home and put them in a presentation that is worthy of all the shots and tells a story that makes you feel like you were there.

The good thing is is that this new style (for me) of shooting is also perfect for a book. It's virtually the same images that I would use and after having put them through spark I have already edited them and worked out which images look good big and small so the book is easier to put together. So I might start printing books.

Who would have thought that this simple program would have created a 'spark' for my photography :)

Apparently someone at Adobe (or a company they bought) ... :-)

Some really good action shots, and as you say all the others can make you feel like you were there.

Here is another one I completed.

October is Breast Cancer month in Australia. I was asked if I would shoot this fundraiser and as its for a really good cause I accepted.
I asked what images they wanted and they said to just shoot anything. Asked what they wanted them for - a few images for the newsletter.
Perfect opportunity for a presentation page so I let them know what I was doing and they liked the idea.

So again a documentary style shoot but also looking for 'feature' shots to impress and 'filler' shots to add small details.

Here is the presentation I put together for them and they were delighted with it.

Pinktober

They then requested a few shots from the presentation to use for the newsletter but gave everyone the link to see the day.
