| Paddles, the prime Minister Jacinta Aherns' cat has been run over. he was a SPCA rescue cat and had made his way into the hearts and minds of New Zealanders as a whole. he will be missed |

| Aw no, very sad to heard that. And condemning Paddles' owner as a 'shirty dame' seems like a really shitty thing to say. |

| I was merely channelling the rev. Spooner to say it was a dirty rotten shame. Aren't unconfined cats banned in Oz? I'm aware that NZ and Aus are two different countries, but the fauna has evolved without cat-like predators in both, no? |

cats in N.Z are free ranging doing what cats do,there are several would be polititions who want legislation to control cats as dogs are but those pushing this are millionairs with too much free time and egos. there are various councils with by laws which set the number of cats per household ...
we have two and both prefer inside at night on the electric blanket

I was all set to get grouchy when Paddle's demise was 'welcomed' by some.
But after reading all the posts, I realize this is recognized, perhaps, as just another of humanity's problems.
there would be no cats in New Zealand (or Australia for that matter) if they were not brought there by humans.
And as was said, "cats do what cats do."
Knowing from observation ( not experience) that cats do not know what cars and trucks can to do them, my wonderful cats have always lived inside. Happy, well-fed and loved. One survived until 18 years of age, only one over the years did not make it into the teens.
Free range cats, or free range anything, get out of hand. Snakes in Guam? Even chickens in Kauai. We won't talk about rabbits, will we.
My point is, please don't blame the cats.
