??

Ok -- I was going to miss this one due to my complete and total lack of knowledge about anything Marx Brothers, but I missed the painting with light challange, so now I need to enter.

Whats the best way to cliff notes the Marx Bros? With other challenges: song lyrics, in the style of, it seemed much easier to get a handle on things. This one seems to need a much deeper understanding for entering and for voting.

Can those in the know give us some background that goes beyond wikipedia and fills in if we don't have access to the movies?

Thanks!

Maybe the original "wild and crazy guys" with humor somewhere between ridiculous and surreal ... maybe like the Three Stooges with much better jokes and without the casual violence.

There are some brief plot summaries linked from the bio pages at IMDB

I've never found Karl to be particularly funny and never saw any of Hermann's movies. Larry, Curly and Moe, however, taught me that casual violence can be hilarious. nyuk nyuk nyuk.

if you are too busy to spend an hour and a half watching America's greatest comedians, here is a 4 minute clip with some of their best work:

Looks like you will have a top 10 finish regardless of what you put in!

Before I write something here, I have something to express.
If you're not having fun, you're doing something wrong.
Come on folks, only 9 entries!!!

Yeah, no kidding. She got a red ribbon in a *foliage* challenge with a picture of a beaver.

I don't know, this almost seems to be more in the category of politically incorrect. :P

it is nothing short of a tragedy that even on an aging site like this (i'm talkin to you!), so few are familiar with the genius of the marx bros.

eleven entries now. I was thinking that if I entered, I'd get Top Ten and "The Brown" ribbon. Ha!

Well, you still have an excellent chance of obtaining one or the other, though I suspect I'll be competing with you for one of those ... ;-)

It was not an easy one, but I always loved Marx Brothers movies, so it's great to be in, even with few entries.

Good luck everyone!

I'll be in.

I'm in, but it's beyond lame. I'll be vying for the Brown.
11/22/2017 08:57:06 AM · #17
to compete for brown, just make an actual Marx Bros reference, no one knows them or can be bothered to google.
eta: yay! there are some marxists here :-)

Ok, based on some chatter in the 65 forum thread I went looking for the 'Challenge Suggestion' thread for this Marx Brothers challenge. I couldn't find it. Is this another 'Special' SC derived challenge?

And you couldn’t find it because... it happened almost two years ago (February 2016).

Quite honestly, I didn't see it because I was looking for Marx or Marx Brothers in the Subject line. I just reran the search and now I see it as the first hit when searching in 'Challenge Suggestions' for 'marx'. I didn't immediately recognize the subject line of 'Hello I must be going' ... I had Marx Brothers on the brain. :-)
