How is this challenge possible under Standard Editing using the techniques linked to in the description? It talks about drawing in eyebrows, etc., which seem to drift into Extended Editing territory.

Or is the judgement call on "legality" going to be similar to when we have a "painterly" challenge under Standard Editing, with some leeway given?

I understand we can probably get the desired results other ways than the referenced technique, but just want a little clarification or opinions

We'll relax a little, as you surmised. We didn't want to do it full-monty with Extended. Think of drawing eyebrows and mouths as just outlining what's already there, just don't go too far overboard.

Isn't the "Full Monty" always illegal? *grin*

The tutorial uses the paint brush tool. Is this normally not allowed under the Standard Editing rule set? Just trying to figure out what will be allowed for future challenges.

Our Standard Editing Ruleset is not tool-based, but results-based. We wouldn't let you draw some birds in the sky, say, but there's nothing keeping you from highlighting (or suppressing) a feature in the actual exposure by using the paintbrush, within reason. So you might "outline" the lips and eyes, say, in any portrait, and that would generally be acceptable. In this particular challenge there's a specific, non-literal look you are challenged to emulate and we're going to be pretty liberal about interpreting the rules in that regard. We didn't make the challenge Extended Editing because that would have opened it up way too wide in our opinion...

I CAN'T EVEN FIND THE BRUSH

Right click on the brush tool and select the last one.

I've failed at failing!!! I couldn't get the right balance of failing well or failing badly. I failed badly in comparison to the originals. There's a definite skill to this! (what an odd thing to say...)

I'm in. I had to lie about the photo date -- it said it was out of the date range.

I thought I was locked out because of the date but then I found I was in.

I have CS6. Not there. I searched. I read the tutorial. I only have paint and pencil. I tried. Not there.

It should be in the area below the healing brush tools and above the clone stamp tool.

I did the exercise and the whole idea of a pie face is so horrible that I don't think I want this image in my portfolio.

Can we do this in private?

No way is it an improvement or enhancement to the original image.
