Anyone that has read my previous thread knows what pics I'll be taking. If you could recommend a nice tripod I would appreciate it.

Thanx

I have a Benro for my big camera. Not sure of the model number. It's got a lot of nice features. Good value for the $. Not high end but good. I think I paid $125 locally, so you can likely find one for under $100.

For my compact camera for work travel, I have a Tamrac Zipshot. Uses the same construction as tensioned tentpoles. Unfortunately, they don't appear to make it any longer. There is a knockoff on Amazon that has identical legs but has a plastic head. Great for work travel and hiking. It's not rock stable, so not as good for long exposure nighttime shots in a breeze.

The two I'm eyeballing are

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D60LG8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AXCB29L39I26U&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XC3GWU/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_1_w

Both look nice and are rating very well on the interweb.

I like the fact one (maybe both) can have the camera upside down so I can take pics of my photos.

Does anyone really know the difference between these two?

Have you read some of the user reviews and answered questions on the Amazon pages? Those can tell you a lot about what the differences are from people who already own the product. Try Youtube for detailed reviews as well.

I was shopping for a backpacking stove for my daughter last night, and couldn't tell the difference between two Optimus models. A Youtube review informed me they were the same and the company had simply done a name change.

Offhand the main thing I notice is the locking mechanism for the ball head. Which type do you prefer? The GX600B200 looks like it might be easier to do fine positioning adjustments.

Neither of them indicate what the ball head clamp configuration is: Manfrotto, ARCA Swiss or other. Going with an ARCA Swiss compatible clamp will give you greater flexibility going forward.
