Not even sure how that would work. But, it sounded cool in my head.

The simplest way would be if we could submit an animated GIF, but challenge submissions are restricted to JPEGs.

Other possible options might be faded type, tiny type, stylized/calligraphic type (as often seen with Arabic-language "decorations" or the previous post), or a supremely metaphorical photo ...

Or do what advertising used to do. Place a picture in a picture. The first would be "hidden". But perceptible.

I vote for this challenge. Subliminal messages are for casual viewing, so close inspection can reveal them to the "conscious" mind.

I don't think we need to vote on the effectiveness, just the concept. Since I think this challenge would use a lot of editing, wouldn't even to be able to submit anything.

But I'd sure as heck vote.

It's an interesting idea. Does anyone have thoughts about a challenge description? Which ruleset?

In terms of the rule set, I'd vote for Extended. The challenge will be difficult enough. To creatively hide a message into an image, I'd like to have all available processing tools.

“Subliminal Message” is maybe a better challenge suggestion ... and IMO it would be all about the title. Agreed, it wouldn’t be an easy challenge but I don’t think the rule set would change that.

Subliminal: Below the threshold (of consciousness or sensation) is where things really happen. Isn't it?

THat's how it's currently listed in the queue. Speaking for myself, I don't think adding "Message" to the title is a good thing. I visualize that leading to a LOT of cookie-cutter entries with grayed-out text or something. I could be wrong.

I imagine this challenge having entries like the two faces that make a chalice with their negative space. Or the pile of bodies that actually look like a skull when viewed from far away. I think both of those could be done with standard editing, but would probably be easier with extended.

Maybe something like this using photos?
