I watched No Country For Old Men last week and loved it.

Children of Men... I give it... - a really ugly, uninteresting and non-redeeming film.

Other recent movies:
Across the Universe 7/10 - But the soundtrack is excellent and the cast could really sing
CashBack 9/10 - Loved it!
No Country for Old Men - 7/10

Du levande / You, the Living (2007) Roy Andersson - "Be pleased then, you the living, in your delightfully warmed bed, before Lethe's ice-cold wave will lick your escaping foot." -Goethe 9/10

Oddly enough, I rented both of those movies last week, along with 3:10 to Yuma, and loved them all. I also rented American Gangster, which I didn't care for.

Another good film that is worth considering is The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which I give an 8/10. It was just really good...but then again I love Tommy Lee Jones so it might just be me. :)

No Country for Old Men-8/10 One of the better movies I've seen in a while. I do love the Cohen Brothers and they directed two of my all time favorites Raising Arizona and O'Brother Where Art Thou

Sponge Bob Movie, while on a sailboat cruising the Bahamas, 2006 I think. Watched it with my grandson who was 6 then. It was fun.
It's interesting how they sneak a lot of things into the Sponge Bob cartoons that are derived from real life themes.
I rarely watch a movie, but it was raining that evening.

No Country for old men - fantastic movie 9/10
Horton Hears a who - 8/10
10,000 BC - very dissapointed 6/10 (saved by the special effects)

Yes. The World's Fastest Indian was a great flick! Enjoyed it immensely. I'll second that 9 - 10. The fact that it was non-fictional was a big plus.

And, yes. also... another two thumbs up for Into The Wild. A definite 10!

My latest interest: on HBO -- John Adams - 7-part miniseries. If you hurry you can still catch up with parts 1 & 2. Part 3 airs this Sunday, March 23, '08. ("Check your local listings!") A good 8-9 if you're into history -- spot-on period-accuracy with the sets, architecture and clothing of colonial days. And some great insights into the birth of America... and the meaning and value of liberty. (Time for another Tea Party??!!)

10,000 BC

Rating: 5/10

This movie is so much like Apocalypto! It's pretty much the same story but with worse directing, acting, and storyline. The fact that most of the movie is in English and it takes place 10,000 BC is really distracting. The special effects are the only thing worth noting.

Last King of Scotland 8/10
A little graphic but given the subject matter not egregiously so. Engaging performance by Forest Whitaker

Jumper 6.5/10
So so. The special effects are OK but the story takes some serious turns with the family issues.

Michael Clayton 7.5/10
A movie about lawyers as the people you love to hate and how one of them becomes self-righteous because those more powerful than him don't take care of him (in his opinion).

Days Of Thunder 8/10
I'm no fan at all of racing but this movie brings together a lovely, young hottie (whats-her-name) and Cruise with Duvall being the biggest presence to me (and he makes the film).

Platoon 9.5/10
I don't care how much license dude took with the movie. I like his characters even if they sometimes feel clusmily used. He moves 'em along and I like the way his story develops.

crank 8/10
as far as unbelievable action movies go this is really really good.

Into The Wild 3/10

I expected way better than what I got. The acting and the scenary were the only reasons I gave this a three, otherwise a 1. I wish I could get those 148 minutes back.

300 Love the action and the graphic treatment.

Wish the Leonidas' final spear had shish kebabed Xerxes at the end, historical accuracy be damned. Still, 9/10

No Country (9 outta 10) was superb, friend-os', highly recommended. Just don't expect a big pay-off at the end. It's not that kind of movie.

Horton Hears A Who (7 outta 10) really brings the Seuss world to life, and not in a freakish, horrifying way like the Mike Myers flick... Jeez... the stuff of nightmares...

Minority Report (10 outta 10), which I just watched recently (for the umteenth time) is still the best modern sci-fi flick for my money. War Of The Worlds (8 outta 10), the new Spielberg version is great too.

I'm still waiting for someone to rejuvinate the greek mythology theme, I mean c'mon, Clash Of The Titans '81 (7 outta 10 then, 3 outta 10 now) is all we've had in almost 30 years. I think that mythos is ripe for the new computer tech. A Jason And The Argonauts remake would be s-w-e-e-t.

The Colossus Of Rhodes, Titans (Cronus, Atlas, Promethius, etc...), Olympians, Gorgons, Sirens, Basilisks, Chimera, Nymphs, Satyrs, Myrmidons yadda yadda... all we get are crappy TV SHOWS. You'd think after the success of 300 (8.5 0utta 10), there might be a market.

"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Bill Ford" 7/10. There are some very tense moments in this movie. Great acting as well, especially from Casey Affleck.

Phenomenon - Over 10 years old and still an all time favorite of mine.

Just saw "I am Legend" last night. 6/10. I had higher expectations of it for some reason. I was always a fan of the Apocolyptic movies of the 70s (Omega Man, Damnation Alley, Planet of the Apes, Soylent Green, etc.)

Last night I watched "No Country for Old Men" - I give it 1/10. I thought it sucked badly. Only give it a one for production value. It reminded me of a Tarantino movie, but with much less entertainment value - or any value for that matter. It is beyond me how this got the acclaim it did. I'm not averse to violence - even of the gratuitous variety, but I do like a decent story, a decent plot, some point to a scene or a character. Even forgetting the aforementioned "lack of payoff at the end" - This had nothing. Sorry.

Juno: 9/10 - Superb screenplay, very well acted. Enjoyably un-Hollywood. Wonderful film.
