Post your entry here for the August Water Drop Challenge.

Remember the rules:
How it works--this challenge is open to anyone who has never entered a water drop (or other liquid/drop combination) into a challenge.

1. Open to anyone who hasn't previously entered a water/(or other liquid/drop combination) picture into a challenge.
2. Post your entry here by Midnight, EST, August 31st. (the same time your free study is due)
3. IreneM will judge the competition, and she will provide a ribbon to go to the top five entries.

It's a little different having the other entires visible during the submission phase ... I'm still going with this one:

this is my first time doing anything like this. I thought it was kind of strange, too. But I figured it was just a side-challenge. Also, since my email acts up occasionally, I figured this would be the best way for people to know that their image made it in.

I'm open to suggestions if anyone has a better idea!

Not a problem -- it'll just be interesting to see how it goes, and whether seeing earlier entries will affect anynone's editing or choice of image.

I think this is going to be a fun experiment.

As far as the first entries affecting later ones?
Hmmm, first entries could be pulled and replaced later on, right?

Sure! just like a challenge, you can change any time up until Midnight on the 31st.

I figured that the entries really won't affect other entries. People will probably be either happy with what they have, or they would have kept playing with it anyway.

Wendy, Thanks for setting up this contest. I've wanted to try this for awhile, but hadn't built up the energy to set everything up. I'm sure glad I left the whole afternoon open for this, I had to work out what to drop into, then how to set up some color, then how to light it. Then I needed more light. Then more light, and on and on...but I'm pleased with the result. I have some more to look at, so it may change before tomorrow midnight but here's my entry so far:

Ok, it's down to the wire!! The water drop side challenge ends tonight at midnight EST. Post your final water drop picture here!

I just heard from IreneM, and she will have the winners posted by tomorrow night. (She's busy tonight after the challenge ends. Plus I'm sure she needs more time to properly digest our fantastic shots!)

I'm wowed by the entries. The colors, the shapes, the fantasy.... also the work you've put into them. GREAT!

I'm off to work now and, as Wendy says, I'll need some time to assess your fantastic images. However, I'll get back to you tonight with five shiny ribbons to be awarded.

Good work, you guys! See you later...

High-speed photography allows us to view things that ordinarily move too quickly for us to register as a single image. Everyday events such as a drop of water falling into a bowl are suddenly transformed into liquid sculpture. Beauty and art replace the mundane.
Those who specialize in high-speed photography are masters of patience and stubborn as mules. Always trying to capture the perfect shot, frozen in time.

As you know, high speed photography is a great passion of mine and believe me, I know how difficult and frustrating it can be getting a shot you're really happy with. Perfect synchronization between the moving object and the actual taking of the photograph is required (which is far easier said than done).

It's been a pleasure judging this side challenge. Each of the entries is charming in its own way and I can see a lot of work has gone into making the images look so effortlessly beautiful. I just SO wish I could give you all a ribbon.

Before I announce the 5 ribbon winners I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my Captain of WPL times Yanko for designing the ribbons. I had plenty of water drop shots suitable for the ribbons however my Photoshop skills are very limited (to say the least) so I didn't have a clue on how to make them into ribbons worthy of this challenge. In my panic I mailed Richard and he agreed immediately to take on the task. Thanks, Richard! If we ever meet, the first 5 rounds are on me.

Also a big thanks to vawendy for coming up with the challenge idea in the first place.

The ribbon winners are:

for Congratulations davidw

for Congratulations rmezzo

for Congratulations dknourek

for Congratulations LydiaToo

for Congratulations sfalice
